I know that your post count is 1, and surly close to 100% of people here would advise RTFM (read the f**king manual), but i decided to give an answer:

The most useful infomation on the serial number pretains to what week of manufacture the phone was made on. What matters is the phone's firmware revision (1.1.2, 1.1.1 or the older ones, 1.0.2 - 1.0.0).

It is not the serial number that matters, its the phone's "version" number that matters most.

also, on a quick note, you can't unlock the iphones that are being sold in the apple stores atm (softwarematicly ofc) you could however do a hardware unlock.

it's just waiting and holding on as the rest of us do
