Exclamation No Software Unlock being released by Geohot

    Hi,

I was on Geohot's blogspot looking at his hardware unlock steps and found in the postmortem post that he is not working on a software unlock. He says"

"I wish I had time right now to unlock iPhones for people, but even with this method it'll take me two hours per phone, and I'm leaving so soon. I will continue to post to this blog, and I will continue to work with the iPhone, but not on a software unlock. I am pretty much useless there."

This means that we learn how to do the hardware unlock ( the steps are very difficult to follow if you don't know what your doing ), use Turbo Sim, use Supersim, or wait for the Dev guys to come up with a software solution.

Geohot does say that "Also, if anyone finds a way to erase the bootloader from software, this becomes a software unlock."

I hope someone can find a way to do this.

That's an awfully long post to say not very much

Look, geohot wasn't a one man show, just like the dev team isn't. WE ALL hope for a soft-unlock. But at least now we can unlock the geohot way and finally use our iphones!

If you remove the actual hardware side of things, ie; unsolder the wires and remove the switch, then yes, you'll need to redo the soldering and add the switch.

When Apple releases an update and that makes a change to the software that was uploaded as part of the hack, then yes, you'll probably need to redo the steps. Same thing with activation when Apple releases an update, you usually have to reactivate things.

I think the main pain for most people is not actually the wires, but the switch, as it's not exactly flush fitting. People were asking if any of the dock pins were unused (some are unused), and I think the thought was to lead the wire to two of tese pins and then mod the dock so the switch was in the dock, thus the phone itself does not have some switch on it, but the dock does.
There was also mention of maybe wiring up to the headphone jack, so you could mod a 3.5mm headphone jack to have the switch on it, so you plug in the jack when you need to use the switch.

yes thats true, but you don't ALWAYS have to update. BTW, this is from GeoHot himself, no need to speculate, GeoHot said it only works until you update. I was talking to him on IRC when he was doing the unlock live.

Here is a very good idea using a built in reed relais contact that is operated via a magnet on the outside of the iPhone: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...07&postcount=1
