Hey all, My friend has found a Iphone 2G that has "NO SERVICE" when a sim card is inserted. He has now given it me, is there any way to fix this? Also it is now jailbroken to firmware 3.1.2.

Need more details. Has he unlocked with bootneuter?

Is this a SIM card that is for a 3G only carrier?

Does he have a normal IMEI? Post the first 5 digits of the IMEI so we can tell.

I've tried putting different sim cards and still says "no service"

And yes has unlocked with bootneuter but no luck still.

Could the IMEI be blacklisted? (stolen, reoported lost, claimed new one on insurance?)

please do not support stolen iPhones!

Discussion of ways around carrier blocks on lost/stolen phones is against the rules of this forum (as it is illegal in most countries). In the UK, you can go to jail for simply possessing the tools to change the IMEI.

"found it" equates to stolen in most legal systems (see gizmodo versus Apple for a real world example). This is especially true if the phone in question was "blocked". You need to do the right/legal thing and try and return the phone to the carrier or original owner.
