    Default New SMS features... possible?

    Hello!!!

I'm thinking in the possibility to add new features/hacks to the SMS app...
-it's possible that iPhone tell us when we've reached 160 characters?
-it's possible that iPhone send us a delivery notification SMS? (it's possible adding *N# at the start of the SMS, but all devices have this automatically).

    Any idea?

    Thanks in advance!!!

    Greetings from Bretoria

Not quite sure I understand the 160 character bit? Is it 1) because you want to limit the number of SMS you send or 2) you think that if you type a message that is longer than 160 characters the message doesn't get through?

Re: the SMS notification. With some operator's it's possible to put a *<string>* message to get an delivery notification, however you need to find out what you're operator is looking for in order to determine if they have to send you back an ACK. But you're absolutely right. This is really a must have feature that most GSM users have been enjoying for the past 10 years.

All english phone have a counter on the top of each sms telling you how many characters you have left before you go over into the next sms message and therefore costing you twice as much. Each time you go into a new text you loose some characters though that your orvider uses to join the two togerther.

    Eg: Text 1 ---- 160 Characters
    Text 2 ---- 155 Characters
    Text 3 ---- 150 Characters

And so on, (not sure about the exact numbers but its along those lines)

Sorry if that sounded a bit confusing!

The option is 1), I want to limit the number of SMS I send.

About the notification, in Spain, most operators need an *N* String at the very start of the SMS to send you the ACK.

    Thanks!

    PD. Any idea?

id be willing to bet money that the O2 iphone is likely to have

    enhancements to sms
    and
    an mms app

why? MMS is a big revenue earner for O2, and notifying SMS user sthat you have used a second sms and therefore will be charged more is a requirement under UK regulation.
