New iPhone with 3G?
I heard something on ABC's "Tech Bytes" this morning about a new iPhone being released with 3G... I guess the word actually came from AT&T... Any word from Apple?

Now that sounds interesting ... coming with video recording, MMS and 3G and not to US, but to T-Mobile soon
Oh and 16GB ... any ideas if that's for real? I mean I just ordered my ordinary iPhone and am quite happy, don't need any of the features they added, so ... but still interesting to know.

The last word, so far, from Apple is that 3G is too battery spender for the iPhone. Now, this is of course BS, cuz the service would provide 5+ hours of battery life with current technology.
Then WHY Apple did not realese 3G? (we already know iPhone has 3G technology built in, just no antenna)
The answer: AT&T HAS A LOUSY 3G COVERAGE ALL OVER U.S.
So, if 3G was to come, it had to be AT&T who announced it, since they were who delayed the release. AND THEY DID, Randall Stephenson (AT&T CEO) was the one speaking out. I think iPhone is going to be the vehicle for U.S. to get a widespread, quality data transfer system for mobiles, until now held up by pettiness of companies like att.

So.... you say this is BS based on what? Are you a hardware engineer? Or have you actually used a UTMS/GSM 3G phone before? Or maybe a phone hobbyist who understand what the difference between IS-95, GSM, TDMA, CDMA all means, and the history of the CDMA technology? (hint: if you think the history of CDMA and iPhone 3G has nothing in common, you're not qualified to tell any of us what is BS or not when it comes to 3G chipsets)
Consider the battery life of the current iPhone. Good? Bad? Now roughly divide it by a little less than 3. Consider that. Good? Bad? That's the current state of 3G chipsets.
Of course, Apple could toss in a bigger battery to offset that like the N95 did.... but then it wouldn't be a slim phone anymore would it?
