Default New Features to iPhone tomorrow - digital FM radio?

Well I'm sure everyone here already follows www.macrumors.com, but if you don't, you might want to. Didn't mean to pipe.

Anyway, the point is, while I'm sure there won't be any sim unlocking tomorrow, you can bet that what ever the iPod Touch has in terms of features, the iPhone will be getting too! And that is digital FM radio. Whatever that really means, whether its just internet radio from iTunes, or its HD radio (doubt it), you know the iPhone has to be getting them too! They look so much a like that there is no way apple would add newer features to the iPod Touch because that would tend to confuse customers.

And Apple has always followed the KISS principle.

I doubt it. iPhone provides SOME iPod functionality, but their top of the line iPod will contain iPod-specific features that iPhone won't have. I'm sure FM Radio might be one of them... Even if they allow it, many accessories just don't work on iPhone (Like the USB Camera thing)..

Anyways, I think iPhone will provide ENOUGH iPod functionality to please most people, but I don't see iPhone being the king in the iPod line... They will definitely want a line between their Phones and their Music players... IMO anyway, who knows.

Default FM radio - is the hardware ready?

The first thing to make it happen is to make the hardware to be able to do it.
for FM radio RX you need to have electronics to make work and if it is there how come no one notice it ? the FM anttena is difftrent in legnth then GSM anttena.

btw, all most all cellphones dont have that feature.

Well, they could easily do it via the FM iPod attachment that currently doesn't work. But I don't see them doing that. It would be bad-ass though.

The Infineon chip used in the iPhone has more power under the hood that we first thought. Apple used the Infineon platform MP-E+ or MP-EU to built the iPhone and both of them can manage Flash, Java and MMS. Even more interesting, the platform also has GPS, FM tuner and 3G capabilities! A simple firmware update can activate the features!

Agree. That situation is quite common. This revision won't do WCDMA/GPS/FM

the infineon chip can PROCESS 3G/GPS/etc., but that doesn't mean diddly if the corresponding hardware pieces aren't under the hood. there is no 3G antenna, there is no GPS antenna, and there is no FM antenna. without those, the infineon chip can't do shit.

it's like saying my computer automatically can scan things because it's got a usb port. but, without the scanner plugged in, my computer can't magically reproduce documents
