can you share link which i can download a custom IPSW. will that be hacktivated already? or do i still have to jailbreak it?

what would you suggest me to do? restore it to stock firmware or use custom firmware? i havent tried using a custom firmware before. i only used redsnow to jailbreak my iphone. im so confused on what to do.

regarding the firmwares, should i use? 4.1 over 4.2.1 or just stay with 4.0.2/4.0.1

how can i fix a kernel issue? can a fresh restore fix it up?
for a hardware issue? what could be the problem? the battery? the motherboard?

sorry if have tons of question, thanks. by the way, is there pwnagetool for pc users?

No, that would be illegal, it is 100% legal to use pwnagetool and make a custom IPSW for your own use. It is illegal to share that custom IPSW with someone else (software piracy)

This depends on what you choose when you make a custom IPSW in pwnagtool. It asks you "can you activate legitimately via iTunes", if you say no to this question, then the custom IPSW includes hacktivation.

I would suggest that you restore original 3.1.3 IPSW from Apple. There are good reasons I suggest a non 4.x iOS version. I'm not saying you should permanently stay with iOS 3.1.3 - but it is a good diagnostic technique.

If this fails with a 101x error, use tinyumbrella to kick the phone out of recovery mode.

If this restore fails - then it's likely a hardware error.

I assume by "PC" you mean windows, no there isn't. Before you try and correct me, sn0wbreeze is NOT the same, it is similar (it is an unofficial/unauthorised copy - that manages to implement many of the same features)

We don't recommend or support it on this forum.

with regards to hardware problem, if i turn my iphone on, its runs smoothly and enters recovery mode. how will i know if its related to hardware issue?

i have another question, why cant i get the "wheel" to come out so it could start the restore?. does it have to do something with the iBoot thing? in restoring, i has to be running smoothly right? the wheel shows in a few seconds then the restore bar follows and the restore starts.

You will get an error during restore either - 1014 or 1015 - click OK and ignore this error. Download and run TinyUmbrella it has the option to "exit recovery mode". That should get you to the "slide for emergency" screen.

    Then you can jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2 redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team] (and a 3.1.2 IPSW from http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm )

You publish it on a paste site and then simply include a link to your pastesite page in your reply here.

DO NOT copy-paste the whole log file into a message here.

thats my lastest log, i tried to restore it with 4.2.1 on recovery mode.. it got stuck there. so i closed itunes.

but this one is my log when i tried to restore it with stock firmware with the help of redsn0w to put it on DFU mode. i end up having error 1604.

im very scared to try restoring it to 3.1.3, is that my last hope to get my iphone back to life isnt it?

iTunes enforces more checks on the iOS 4.x restores. Plus iOS 4.2.1 restores include a more stringent baseband check.

None of these restrictions exist in 3.1.3 - so we can eliminate some of the potential causes for your problem.

I said before, and I repeat it again - this doesn't mean you need to run iOS 3.1.3 for ever, it is just a troubleshooting step.

yes, im aware of that. but ive heard that its most stable ios for iphone 3g, so i might just stick to it. i will reinstall itunes just to make sure before i restore to 3.1.3. i hope this works. thank you very much for your help and guides. without you, i would still be stuck in trying to restore it to 4.2.1 ( i was hoping it could fix my problem, guess not)

i forgot to ask, by restoring it to 3.1.3, you mean, i have to use itunes (10.1) and restore it using shift key? do i still have to enter DFU using redsn0w or just use the recovery mode.? how about the host file? do i need to change it to saurik's ip address?

    • The host file is irrelevant with 3.1.3 on the 3G
    • Yes shift-click restore and browse to the 3.1.3 IPSW
    • I recommend normal DFU mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/53930.htm, definitely not pwned DFU mode
    • iTunes 10.1 should be fine.

The last I have heard is that 3.1.3 is the best, most stable choice for the 3G iPhone. The second best option is 4.2.1
