Default Need to Emulate BB for BB data plan, is it possible?

    Hi all,

The thing is this, the company I work for has an unlimited Blackberry data Plan and I was trying to configure my iphone so that it used the same APN configuration as the blackberry. In this way I would have a free and Unlimited data plan for my iPhone.

Is it even possible? I have tried to get the configuration from one of the blackberries and it has a Gateway IP along with a UID, CID and User-ID.

I have tried with the configuration on the Options, Advanced, TCP. And my iphone tells me that it couldn't suscribe to Edge.

Can somebody enlighten me with some knowledge?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cristian

That's pretty much correct. Connections using the Blackberry.net APN are signed and encrypted with Blackberry-specific keys. Since this information is provided by RIM themselves, and is not easily reverse-engineered (since you must authenticate to their servers), it's nearly impossible to hack around this.

Well it would take hacking into their NOC...and since a group of CIA agents were commissioned to try and failed...i am betting it is gonna be closer to the never.

I am on a blackberry data plan for t-mobile and it works great. In fact I was doing this with my dash before my iphone (that was before they dropped price on the total internet package).

    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username: (blank)
    password: (blank)

You would not be able to get any of the blackberry enterprise stuff working, but you would have data working.

That is what I was thinking. Although some companies (like my girlfriends) get their tmobile phones set up with the proper configurations to do all the blackberry stuff. I'll check out her phone when she gets back from India tomorrow to see if it's any different. But like stated above, you can add the blackberry plan to your account and use the data connection just fine.

wap.voicestream.com isn't actually the Blackberry network APN.

If T-Mobile doesn't charge for Blackberry data distinctly from normal data, then I suppose you'd be fine on a Blackberry plan, but you should be aware that many carriers do charge ridiculous out-of-plan rates for data that travels outside of the Blackberry.net APN if you're on a Blackberry plan.

I'm not syaing that APN has anything to do with blackberry. Those are just that settings I am currently using with a blackberry data plan on an iphone on t-mobile. I have been doing this for almost a year now (with nonblackberry devices), and never run into any "extra" charges.

Yes, I've heard that is the case with T-Mobile in fact.

On the other hand, if you tried this on Rogers up here, it would technically work, but you'd be paying $0.05/KB for every piece of data sent/received outside of the Blackberry network. A normal month of iPhone use would easily run into the thousands of dollars....
