Need Advise 2G or 3G?
I was wondering if there was a preference between the 2G or 3G to be used as a jail-broken phone on the T mobile network and if so why.

The only advantage the 3G has on t-mobile is the GPS. The 3G frequencies used on t-mobile are not supported by the 3G iPhone. The 2G has the very distinct advantage of being less likely to be mis-upgraded and have the unlock method locked out. A current out of the box iPhone TTBOMK is not unlockable (baseband above 02.28.00) and if you accidently use iTunes to download and restore the phone or update the phone your baseband will be upgraded and you lose the ability to unlock it. There are some methods that claim to downgrade the baseband back to 02.28.00 but I have seen some "controversy" over the effectiveness and safety.
And it looks as if 3.0 iPhone OS will require the 3G baseband to be updated. Of course if you use your phone day to day as _your phone_ then I'd personally wait for the Dev Team advice on 3.0 OS! I have a dev iPhone and Touch upgraded to 3.0 but both are first release models and as such upgradeable, downgradeable, sunnyside-upable, etc.
So just me. Aesthetically, if you have a 3G iPhone it just feels better in my hand. And I like the black look ... I think my 3Gs display is also better looking, but that may just be subjective and not "real". My first 2G has a more responsive touch screen. I can use it through my thinnest motorcycle gloves, where the 3G just does not work. I am solving that though! I ordered some conductive fabric and will sew the index finger pad in place on them and see if that works well.
Hope this helps, as both are great phones, and with 3.0 and "official" support of turn by turn the GPS will be more important for me as I can handoff my TomTom 910 maybe. Depends on whether I can get worldwide maps !!!
