Did you try putting your phone on recovery mode by pressing the home button and sleep/wake button until you get a yellow triangle and try to restore? If not do it then connect to iTunes

erm
yes the yellow triangle was up telling me to connect to itunes i placed it in the dock waited for itunes to open clicked ok then pressed shift key and clicked restore, then clicked the restore point (iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore) it started going througth the process then gave me the error msg 6. then the screen on my iphone went white then turned off now nothing, when i first put it back in the dock windows would pop up saying unknown device but it doesnt do that now (half hour later)

If you haven't done so restart your computer. I ran into this problem many times and restarting the computer should work. Restart and try again.

My iPhone was in 'brick mode' and I was able to fix it.
I just purchased a new 1.0.2 iPhone from an Apple store just prior to Christmas. (I was surprised to get a 1.0.2 one). I managed to jailbreak and activate while in the USA but waited until I got back to Australia to unlock it since I didn't have my Vodafone SIM with me. When I unlocked it with anySIM 1.2 the unlock worked but my WIFI stopped working and GPRS/EDGE wouldn't work.
I decided to restore 1.1.1 but I may have stuffed it up because I did not reverse the unlock first. I got an error on the PC (cannot remember what it was sorry) and my iPhone had a black screen. It would not turn on and would not enter recovery mode...it did absolutely nothing and I thought that I had broken it.
However, the PC was recognising that an iPhone was connected so I wondered if I had it in a restore mode that had a black screen. I attemped to restore 1.1.1 again but got the same/similar error message on the PC and still had no response from the iPhone. I then tried 1.0.2 and also got an error and no response from the iPhone. All of these attempts to restore were made via iTunes. I then attemped an upgrade to 1.1.2. I also got an error on the PC and still no response from the iPhone.
I then downloaded iDemocracy and located AppTapp Installer from within there. I used AppTapp Installer to attempt to restore to 1.0.2. The restore process failed on the PC but it bought my iPhone out of 'brick mode'.
I then discovered that my iPhone had 1.1.2 on it so eventhough iTunes had said that it had failed it really had managed to get 1.1.2 onto my iPhone, it just didn't bring it back to life. I was then able to restore 1.1.1, jailbreak and activate, downgrade the baseband, I am not sure if I then restored 1.1.1 again or not. Then I was able to use jailbreakme to jailbreak, activate and then I unlocked it again using the same anySIM 1.2 (but before I had installed any other 3rd party apps or played with any settings). I then put in the Vodafone settings, ran the EDGE setting fix...and this time my WIFI and GPRS/EDGE worked.
I have now spent the past week on 1.1.1, not really sure if I have the courage to upgrade to 1.1.2 for fear of something not working.
Anyway, I hope that this helps and that your iPhone can be fixed. Just use AppTapp Installer and attempt to restore 1.0.2.
