I did the dodgy deed of getting a brand new iphone from ebay. It wouldn't recover to a cracked firmware or blackra1n soo I just thought screw it and upgraded to 3.1.3. Little did I know it was tethered to AT&T in america (im in uk) and in america wireless companies refuse to unlock an iPhone from their service! So my iphone is currently not jailbreakable or useable since my sim can't be used in it! Does anyone know any different?

You are out of luck. This is well documented in other threads. Wait for a post 3.1.3 jailbreak and unlock.
