Exclamation MobileMe Sync. I just don't get it.

    Hi everyone.

I set fetch manually for data, so my battery won't drain, but as far as I can see,
there is no way to manually sync the iPhone, I can see a sync button just as in Mail.
So how will I be able to sync my data manually?

Someone got this problem, or is this an isolated issue?

    Hi JSN,
hope I got your question correct. With Mobile me you once sync your Mac/PC's data with Apple's Mobile Me service. After that Apples server is "the source" to sync to. I have two Macs and one Windows PC. once I edit an address, calendar event or stuff like this on one Mac/PC it auto-connects to Mobile Me and updates the data. The the other two get aupdated aswell.
The iPhone is just one more "computer" in this game. It gets updated data aswell from mobile Me or edited data on the iphone get transmitted to Mobile Me, then synced with the PC's. So syncing is no longer proceeded between Mac/PC and the iPhone via USB.
The setting for "fetch manual data" on my iPhone is for my other two mail accounts (not me.com), cause they dont support "transmitting" the data.

    hope that helps,

Yup. I understand how this works, however, there shouldn't be a
refresh/get/fetch button there? It looks like a bug for me.

I have set it up on my iPhone(s). When I edit an address for example on my Mac, after 10-15 minutes (if the iphone is connected to EDGE/Wi-Fi) and I look up my contacts, they are changed and vice versa. i guess the concept is not to have a button to refresh cause its pushed - dont know...

If you have not set automatic sync for MobileMe account(s), then you need to update contacts/calendars by using USB cable + iTunes, just as an 1.1.X firmware. There is no over-the-air sync button for manual updates (yet).

What a shame, Apple. What a shame.

Ok actually I'm just as confused myself and have been trying to work out this MobileMe thing for 2 days now.

When I put a new calender event on my mac, it doesnt seem to push to my iphone, even after i've waited a few hours. And vice versa. If i put an even on my iphone nothing seems to get updated to my mac. When I check my me.com all my contacts are there though.

Perhaps you can detail how you have setup and configured your Mac and Iphone?

    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/
First I got my Mac/PC data synced to mobile me, then i did the procedure for the iPhone.

    hope that helps

If I'm not terribly mistaken (Which I might be), I believe each time you open the application (Contacts, Calendar, or Mail) the phone asks MobileMe if there's anything new. Granted it doesn't tell you its doing it (Except Mail.app).

Try turning off Push, creating a new calendar or contact, and hitting the Check for Mail button in Mail.app, and see if that pulls down contacts and calendars too.

Ahhh finally I've managed to get the MobileMe working. I realised that my Mail application had an old account and would not let me sync properly. Its all setup and syncing is now both ways mac to iphone, iphone to mac.

Right now my sync is set for Automatic under System Preferences in Mac which is every 15mins. Does this mean my Iphone will sync every 15mins or just the laptop? How do I adjust the sync timing for iphone?

Has anyone set it to automatic and how long does the Iphone battery last that way?

On you Mac you can set it to automatic. Then - whenever you change anything on the Mac - it is changed on Mobile Me. The iPhone is not affected then.
On the iPhone I have set to "Manually" but sync all mail, calendar, addresses and bookmarks via Mobile Me. The setting to "Manual" makes sense then if you have (Mail-) services that dont push like Google Mail or another account.
I wont set the value to 15 minutes, this will drain the battery. Mobile Me's pushing happens automatically once a mail arrioves, you edit a calendar event on the Mac aso.
