mail symbol at top

Theyre is this envelope mail symbol at the top next to my battery indicator... what does it mean, ive checked my mail inbox and i have nothing new.... so how to i get rid of it :S .????

Did you installed the iSMS.app ?
If so, you can manually delete the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Default_iSMS.png
