    Default Mail auto-check doesnt work on IMAP Exchange

    Hi

    I have a pop3 account and an Exchange IMAP account on my iPhone. The POP3 will get the emails automatically, every 15 minutes like I set it, but the Exchange IMAP account wont check automatically. Am I stupid and overlooking some settings, or there is a problem here?

    When I manually check the Exchange account, all emails download like a dream,

    Thanks

    Ben

    Can you manually connect?
    (I mean: can you connect using telnet to the IMAP port?)

    Laugh laugh haha... there is nothing I can do about it unfortunately, its the corp. policy, and I need to play along.

    This is the only way I can pick my mail up, and I need it bad, so I need to wipe the grim off my face, and play along,

    Now, there is no reason to connect via Telnet, as I can connect even with the iPhone, when I do it manually. So the connection works like a charm. What doesnt work is the auto-check for new emails. It works for my other POP account, but not for this iMap

    For the exchange account, I need to manually check, then I get the emails. I go to Mail, click the account, go to inbox, wait and the mails flow in, whereas with the POP, it will download it unattended, and buzz me when there is anything, which is what I need with the iMap as well,

    Thanks

    Ben

    Same thing happens to me with the Yahoo IMAP account.. The setting to autocheck is not visible. Is this a bug or anything related to IMAP?

    yea .. I also use IMAP with my own mailserver. Strange stuff. The set up internal (30 mins in my case) works perfect under WiFi. When I leave office, (only GPRS no EDGE with Vodafone Germany) the iPhone does not care of emails any more. When you set autolock to never, and leave it enabled, the phone picks up new mail every 5! minutes. Strange. Was in 1.0.2 - I hoped it will be corrected in 1.1.1 - nada. Same shit.

    Coming with the 1.1.1 update is that sometimes mobilemails crashes when started from summerboard. That sucks.

    Ciao

    Hi

    This morning I also tried what you describe, leaving the phone without autolock set, and the mail came in every 5 mintues, but I think that is just because the Mail.app is open, so its in operation, and doesnt have to be triggered.

    However, this is still strange, specially that I have 2 accounts at the same time, and one gets it done, and the iMap one ignores it.

    I hope someone has some solution to this, its quite annoying

    By the way, do you see any advantage going to 1.1.1 over 1.0.2?

    Cheers

    Ben

    I had some strange issues with mail on 1.0.2, sometimes not showing IMAP content correctly, sometimes mails appeared double in the overview, sometimes mails were missing. After a manual reload everything was fine. This is fixed with 1.1.1 - but I have those stupid crashes.

    telneting to the IMAP Server provides important information, such as the server's capabilities. It can be relatead to some settings. That's why I've asked.

    Try:

    Telnet <your-imap-server> 143
    * OK xxxxx IMAP ready
    . CAPABILITY
    * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 ACL RIGHTS=kxte QUOTA LITERAL+ MAILBOX-REFERRALS NAMESPACE UIDPLUS ID NO_ATOMIC_RENAME UNSELECT CHILDREN MULTIAPPEND BINARY SORT THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT THREAD=REFERENCES ANNOTATEMORE CATENATE IDLE STARTTLS AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-MD5 SASL-IR LISTEXT LIST-SUBSCRIBED X-NETSCAPE URLAUTH
    . OK Completed

    . logout
    * BYE LOGOUT received
    . OK Completed

    Note that the IMAP commands are a "." followed by a " " and then the command.

    Code:
    telnet IPADDRESS 143
    Trying IPADDRESS...
    Connected to DOMAINNAME.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    * OK Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 IMAP4rev1 server version 6.5.7638.1 (DOMAINNAME) ready.
    . CAPABILITY
    * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 IDLE LOGIN-REFERRALS MAILBOX-REFERRALS NAMESPACE LITERAL+ UIDPLUS CHILDREN AUTH=NTLM
    . OK CAPABILITY completed.
    . logout
    * BYE Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 IMAP4rev1 server version 6.5.7638.1 signing off.
    . OK LOGOUT completed.
    Connection closed by foreign host.
    Hi

    I understand now, sorry for my ignorance. This is what I get when issuing your commands. Does it say anything important?

    Thanks

    Yeah I know what you are talking about, I have those funny content issues, however it isnt enough of a cause for me to update yet. I will perhaps wait for a more stable release, or at least until the upgrading will be easier.

    Cheers, and thanks,

    Ben
