Default Linking iPhone to a TV - HDMI?

    Hi

I fancy trying linking my iPhone to my TV to watch rented movies.

I thought that this was done via the TV's HDMI socket, but Apple doesn't appear to sell a suitable lead.

    Can anyone advise, please?

Apple has just announced an adapter for HDMI. It will work on the iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4th gen, iPad and iPad 2 - this is limited to 720p output for video playback.

Older iOS devices simply can't support HD video output.

I loaded netflix on my 3gs running 4.2.1 and bought the adapter cables. Course I come to find out that the version of netflix isnt capable of video output on a 3gs, only the 4 model. It wont put out hdmi tho as stated before.

Yes iOS 4.3 and an a4 or higher cpu is required (iPhone 4, iPad iPad2, iPod Touch 4, apple TV)

The older CPUs likely don't have the right hardware to support 720p playback in addition to driving the LCD display.
