Lasting Unlock/Jailbreak possible?
In light of the recent research into how IPSF does their unlocking, I think that it would be beneficial for us to look into permanent unlocking/jailbreak solutions that will last through a firmware upgrade.
It seems that IPSF does something else instead of patching the baseband, which would get overwritten each update.
Is there anything we can do to keep the rest of the file system jailbroken across updates?
I'm thinking that we could create our own custom updater that uses the *.ipsw files.
Perhaps we can make our own "jail" for Apple's iPhone software.
This way, we won't have to go through this long and arduous wait for new hacks to break through every firmware update.
The Dev guys are looking into this, your terminology is a bit off though
Although I know absolutely nothing, that doesn't stop internet posters from expressing an opinion:
I would guess that when the first Apple unlocks are issued, that we'll get a method thats "permanent".
Here in the USA that would be in about two years. I think I've read that in Germany the service provider must offer and unlock after six months of service. Is that correct?
