Default Last version you had wi-fi working in ?

    Mine was 2.02
I suspect Apple is doing something to prevent the use of wi-fi on jail proken phones. This seems to be happening based on your location.

I guess they figure that cydia and installer depend on wi-fi the most. So take away wi-fi and you have no cydia or installer.

oh yeah???? and how exactly would apple know u pwned your phone???? I mean... its not like they are manufacturing two different ipsw files ... one for non jailbreak legit activated phones and one for the rest of us.... once you have downloaded the ipsw theres is no way in which the ipsw tells apple "heeey im being pwned... deactivate wifi"... IMHO..... it must be hardware failure because in my original iphone im on 2.2 jailbreak without any wifi problem.

    Please think.
By apple I didnt mean just the ipsw
They can get to you any time any how.

How do you know itunes isnt doing it.
how do you know its not part of your providers bundle.
Till yesterday you guys where thinking GPS was disabled by apple.
Then you found the right file that fixed it ?

Likewise I know for a fact that my Phone Provider has a switch or setting on my account. When he throws that switch all my internet attempts only want to go thru edge.

There seem to be a shit load of guys facing wifi problems with no solution in site.

I believe like the GPS issue its location and provider specific.

The very way in which wi-fi now works has changed on my phone i.e. if you turn it off and on. It only looks for a wi-fi node for like a second before giving up.

Some of the more senior members need to try and help us sort this out.
Could we start by listing what controls the edge / wi-fi settings. At least where to look ?

    Update:
    Things I noticed.
    a. Big Boss app says Next to Wi-Fi (N/A)
    b. Wi-Fi scanner from app store says no wi-fi or access point.
    c. I am able to turn my wi-fi switch on and off.

    Which files control wi-fi.
Have Cydia and Installer on the Phone but without wi-fi how can I get in more apps ?
i.e. even if I need to trouble shoot the files I need to get into the phone right (Terminal / SHH etc)

ok let me make this clear, first of all apple can't know if ur device is pwned/unlocked, there is no way to do this remotely at least. Now for the wi-fi issue, if u had problems while unlocking in the early stages, i.e from 1.x and lost wi-fi then and somehow it returned, then when upgrading to 2.x u will most probably lose wi-fi forever because upgrading to 2.x reflash ur baseband, which is the thing in the iPhone that does all the communication operations, like calling and recieving calls, EDGE/3G, wi-fi & bluetooth. So no there is no way apple will know that the device is pwned/unlocked and say "ok this iphone is pwned/unlocked let's screw up it's wi-fi" and bang!! There is no way!! Am pretty sure that most of u guys had this issue after upgrading from 1.x to 2.x, which is one of disadvantages of unlocking the device. Unlocking basicly is patching the baseband and sometimes things do go wrong and wi-fi is lost.

    Cheers

You still dont get my point Im talking about your provider doing something thru itunes.
    Or at their end.
    I went upto 2.0.2 and had wi-fi.

Should I just try replacing the baseband. With quick pawn ?

exactly that's what am trying to say. Losing wif-fi, bluetooth, EDGE and/or phone is due to corrupt baseband and not itunes, not apple and 100% not ur carrier. Like I said, if u experienced problems with wi-fi during an old unlock u will most probabaly lose wi-fi in 2.x and trust me many have fallen as victims for using "ziphone" and ended with a screwed up baseband. So most probably that's ur case wnjunkie, or otherwise my guess it's then a bad worksmanship.

Dude, come on I mean why would ur provider disable wi-fi????
What is i't benefit??? It is absurd really...
Anyhow, u can try downgrading to 1.1.4 and downgrade ur baseband then see if it works. If it doesn't then DFU restore back to 2.2 and run bootneuter again.

P.S u could also try using ieraser. Downgrading the baseband is very important to make sure u have clean baseband files. If u don't know already, the baseband can be erased/downgraded using kiphone.
