Default [Knowledge Base] ZiPhone - Questions here

    ZiPhone Knowledge Base

Here is all the info on the new ZiPhone by Zibri. I will bundle together all of the information I have learned here, and all questions will be accepted here. This way there will not be a hundred threads asking "WTF is ZiPhone? How use it?", if you know I am saying.

ZiPhone by Zibri - iPhone Elite is now released!

It's by far the most simple program to setup your iPhone.
Just run it and you will see it.
    For Windows and OS X

The source code will be available later today on
    http://www.iphone-elite.org

Details on HOW it works and WHY it works, will be released on the above site and guides/wiki section.

    Usage: ziphone [-u] [-a] [-j] [-i imei]

-u: Unlock (Only for 4.6 BL)[Using Unlock can fix many dead basebands]
    -a: Activate
-j: Jailbreak [TRUE JailBreak for 1.1.3]
-i: Change IMEI Code (Only for 4.6 BL)
    -v: Verbose boot (debug)

No 'dev-team' was directly involved with this work.
This program is based on the work of everyone who
believed in free software. (Thanks for the toolchain!)

Thanks to geohot for his latest work.
Thanks to Tissy for moral support.
    Thanks to iphone-elite.org for support.
Thanks to Viper and Tifel and ortner for being so nice always.
Thanks to iRev for the picture above and to Mel Brooks for
producing and directing such a funny movie.
And thanks to iphoneelite.com for giving me so many laughs too
    Namaste,
    Zibri.

    P.S.
As a side-effect, using this tool will revive many "dead" basebands.
    Just use the unlock option.
    Descriptions
[-u] [Unlock] Unlocks 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 OTB iPhones with Bootloader 4.6
    [-a] [Activate] "Hacktivates" the iPhone
[-j] [Jailbreak] Jailbreaks iPhones running 1.1.3 firmware
[-i] [Change IMEI Code] Changes the IMEI of the iPhone with Bootloader 4.6
[-v] [Verbose boot] **NOT SURE** (debug)

    Purpose
[-u] [Unlock] Unlock the iPhone with 4.6 Bootloader for use on GSM Networks other than AT&T
[-a] [Activate] Activate the iPhone without using iTunes, use if you plan on unlocking
[-j] [Jailbreak] Jailbreak iPhone running firmware 1.1.3 to install third party apps
[-i] [Change IMEI Code] **NOT SURE**
    [-v] [Verbose boot] **NOT SURE**

    My questions:
If I update in iTunes to 1.1.3 will all of my apps be gone when I jailbreak?
Why would you want to change the IMEI? What would the purpose be?
What is verbose boot and what is the purpose?

If you have any information just post it and I will edit it in here somewhere.

I will try to compile all of the information possible here, I might even write a guide once I figure out enough information.

    Thanks,
    DJ McG

If youre not unlocking, you can upgrade through iTunes and jailbreak with ZiPhone and you end up with a complete 1.1.3 iPhone that's jailbroken, correct baseband and all. If you're unlocking, it rolls your baseband back so you end up with 1.1.2's baseband and 1.1.3 firmware.

Can I just activate the phone? No jailbreaking or unlocking and use a normal o2 simplicity sim card??

    Ok

    MadFlava:
OK, thanks, but if I update and jailbreak will my currently installed apps still work or not?

    badmanberry:
Well, you can activate it, if O2 is a legit/official carrier then you won't need to unlock but if it is not supported by Apple then you will need to unlock the phone first.

No, the phone must be jailbroken to enable third party apps to run, which is essentially what the unlocker is.

Ok, I have a OTB 1.0.2 iPhone running firmware 1.1.3 unlocked with AnySim 1.3, but I have to restore my phone though, to fix an error. Now, can I just restore through iTunes and then use Zibri's new tool to jailbreak. With my unlock still survive after the jailbreak too ?

Please stop confusing all the newbies here or they will newer stop making topics about the differences between these 4 fundamental things.

jailbreak - to have installer.app and 3:rd party soft.

UNLOCK - to make/receive phone calls, send receive sms with sim card from another operator then AT&T (usa) O2 (uk).

activate - every phone must activated >> this can be only done with NOT jailbroken phone and AT&T card. So if You have a non AT&T sim card or You want to have some extra software You want to activate Your iPhone with ZiPhone.

IMEI - its a phone's serial number. Every time when You log in to network IMEI and sim serial is send to provider and stored on their server.
If Your phone is stolen and You report this to the police they can block Your phone by sending request to all the operators not to service phone with that IMEI (you will get a NO SERVICE message with every simcard).
So if You have some serious privacy issues and You thing that every one is spying on You or to get Your new iPhone You where forced to to do a little jogging then this option is for You.

If you are fortunate enough to have a bootloader 3.9 phone you can restore through itunes, jailbreak/activate with ZiPhone and then use iClarified to install anySIM 1.3 and unlock that way.

This way you get a fully virgin 1.1.3 install (with proper fstab jailbreak) AND the new baseband.

I have done this and i'm 100% working on Rogers Canada - 1.1.3 and 4.03(bb)
