Keeping your t-mobile setting when removing/replacing sim
Only one issue I've had with my phone....
If I removed my SIM, I lost all my custom t-mobile settings.
(EDGE, carrier, etc.)
Seems the phone overwrites them with default(s) if you remove your SIM, and power it up.
EASY fix, change them to read only permissions.
/private/var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobilePhoneSettings.bundle/Phone.plist
/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobilePhoneSettings.bundle/English.lproj/Phone.Strings
/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobilePhoneSettings.bundle/Services.plist
/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/MobilePhoneSettings.bundle/English.lproj/Service.strings
I've removed my SIM several times now, and I'm VERY happy that all the settings were still there when it was reinstalled.
Thought maybe others might benefit from this tip??

What's the permission number for read only? Instead of 775.

Could you list the full path of these files? And how to set the files to read-only? Thanks!

The full path is the same as outlined in the proxy hack for EDGE, and the t-mobile carrier settings hack.
Several ways to set them read only....
You can use SSH, a local terminal app on the iPhone, or the Finder application.
444 is the number, or simply chmod -w /pathtofullfilename @ a command line.
or, chmod 444 /pathtofullfilename
Edited the first post to reflect the full path for lazy people, keep in mind that you won't be able to change your phone settings either with them read-only.
So make sure everything is working BEFORE you change the permissions.

I use 2 different non AT&T sims all the time. Each time i change them I loose my Edge settings. Is there a way to change the default cingular settings to my vodafone sim without changing the permissions? So that I can manually change to my other provider? This would meen half the work.
Or even better have the phone read them from the sim? I guess thats what my treo is doing, cause it changes edge settings automatically for each simcard.
Can someone check where wap.cingular.com is stored?
Thanks
