Of course he has to say that, it is his job, he can not say screw the legal contracts that bind them to AT&T, does he actually belives what he says, I don't think so, as a business man he has to be jumping up and down because he is selling the iPhone like hot cakes. He has to wear two hats the CEO one and the seller one. when he talks to the press he is going to have the CEO one on allways. So don't take it personally and understand the whole picture of it.

OK, so - my take is:
My iPhown is unlocked now on 1.0.2. Sure 1.1.1 might be cooler, with new features but at what cost. As long as I don't update I can continue to enjoy my Iphown. At the very worst I have to stick with my current version of itunes for some time.
I really think Apple has more to worry about with competition from other manufacturers of both hardware and software as well as product development than to spend undue time worrying about how to annoy a minority. At the end of the day the iphone is sold unsubsidised and it lies with the service provider to offer a enticing and realistic deal on airtime.
Personally in the UK O2 and their offering was no good so I continued with Virgin who charge me £10 for 300 minutes and 300 texts. I have wifi at home, my 10 minute drive to the office I am disconnected and then I arrive in a wifi zone at work.
I'm sure Steve worries constantly whilst counting the profit, after all as we all know he'd be the last one to hack a telecom system. Wouldn't he???

What new features are being included in 1.1.1?
My iPhone with the 1.0.2 fixes runs pretty well right now. I would be lothe to give up unlocking and 3rd party software for anything short of the moon.
