Jailbroken iPhone that needs to be returned...
I have a jailbroken 3gs and used PwnageTool to upgrade to 3.1. I have noticed recently that my proximity sensor is not working. I've done everything but restore the device. My question is- do I need to do anything during the restore process, before I bring my phone in, so that I can still have the ability to jailbreak my phone again to 3.1?
I'm worried if I bring a jailbroken phone in they won't replace the sensor or repair / exchange the device.
Thank you in advance for any help.

If they exchange the device you will most likely get a 3.1 OTB device that can't be jailbroken or unlocked right now.
Do you have your 3.0 or 3.0.1 ECID SHSH backed up on Cydia? If so you can restore to stock apple 3.0 and take it in. That is the only safe way to go to a stock apple firmware right now.

Thanks Olethros for your reply. I do have my 3.0.1 ECID SHSH backed up on Cydia. I'll have to read how to restore to the stock apple 3.0 as you suggested before I head in to the Apple store.
Not that I don't mind doing the work, but do you happen to know where I can get directions on how to do this?
Again, thanks for the reply and any help.

If Apple gets their hands on your 3GS, they might try to upgrade it to official 3.1 while they work on it. Make sure you tell them you don't want 3.1. They know it's buggy so tell them you want to stay on 3.0.x until a more stable 3.1.1 or 3.2 comes out. Hopefully, you'll walk out with your 3GS still on 3.0.x.

Also, if Apple decides it's a hardware problem.. They will swap out your iPhone for a refurbished one. It is very unlikely that the refurbished one will have an ECID SHSH on record with Cydia.
Also, asking Apple to restore to 3.0 would be an interesting question. I wonder if they still allow signing of 3.0 restores via some backdoor internal mechanism. I expect they may say they are unable to restore phones to older firmwares anymore.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I'll be at the Apple store here in Houston tomorrow and let you know how things go. I'll downgrade the OS tonight.
I too think they may try to replace the unit and appreciate the suggestion about asking them not to upgrade the phone while they work on it, I get my own back.
Again, I appreciate the suggestions!

Now you have to tell them you don't want 3.1 or 3.1.2. Just make sure they understand you're turned off by all the problems reported with 3.1 and haven't heard enough to trust 3.1.2.
Good luck.
