    Default Jailbreak UK 1.1.2

    Hi all

Got my UK iPhone from the O2 store yesterday and it's a 1.1.2. I don't want to unlock it as I'm using O2. The phone is activated (through iTunes). I want to jailbreak it which I believe involves downgrading to 1.1.1 first. My question is is there a specific 1.1.1 firmware I have to use for a UK iPhone or is it generic? And where can I get it? Also once it is downgraded do I have to hack the activation or can I activate through iTunes since I'm using O2? If I have to hack activation are there any downsides (ie does anything break?)

    TIA for any advice

You really need to use the search function otherwise people are going to be giving you grief

To answer your question, if you already have an O2 sim, you cannot activate through iTunes as it will require you to take on a new 18 month contract at a minimum of 35 a month. There are plenty of links on this site for the 1.1.1 firmware (direct download from Apple) then run through the Jailbreak process and all will be well. Jailbreak doesn't break anything other than the iPhone's restriction on application install

    Hope that helps

Sorry should have mentioned that I did search but couldn't find a definitive answer to whether there is a UK specific version of the firmware. I don't want to take any chances :-)

I do want the O2 contract :-) I have already activated the phone and started the 35 a month contract. My question was that once I have downgraded to 1.1.1 will I be able to re-activate using iTunes or will I have to hack it (because iTunes thinks it should already be activated?)

Thanks, I did find them, but again I want to check whether there is a particular one for my UK phone, or whether any 1.1.1 linked from this forum will be ok.

    That's reassuring - thanks!

It does - but still hoping for a definite answer about the version of firmware I need for a UK iPhone and the procedure I need to activate when using a locked iPhone on the O2 iPhone plan downgraded to 1.1.1.

Ok i got my iphone few weeks ago on 02 contract , it was 1.1.1 when i got home i updated it to 1.1.2 , week later downgraded to 1.1.1 then jailbreaked it ...

It would not activate on 1.1.1 , it didnt need to be pluged in to itunes its a sim thing

Once i upgraded back to 1.1.2 and jailbreaked it again it activated by it self.

Edge settings went missing but thats easy to fix , only thing not working at mo is voice mail , but am working on that.

Just wanted to follow up and say that I followed this guide and got my iPhone downgraded to 1.1.1, Jailbroken, upgraded to 1.1.2 and Jailbroken again:

    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15849

The procedure didn't go as described by the tutorial, as I had weird behaviour after restoring to 1.1.1 - after sliding the emergency lock I got a call from "1" which I couldn't answer. Switched iPhone off and back on and it was activated somehow, but wouldn't get an O2 signal. Ignored this and Jailbroke it which gave me working Installer.app, but still no signal. Installed OktoPrep, upgraded to 1.1.2, and as if by magic the phone fully activated and got an O2 signal! Edge and Voicemail didn't work straight away, but the fix in the tut worked. Everything now works - Voicemail, Edge, YouTube, and it's Jailbroken on 1.1.2

    Cheers all, esp. Trunkz!

1.1.1 will not work with the baseband of 1.1.2. So you have to jump through the hoops with calls etc to get to WiFi to jailbreak and get Oktoprep on.

So when you downgrade, some guides imply if it were previously activated you are good to go, but this is not true. You have to do the workaround to get to WiFi to do the stuff and then upgrade back 1.1.2.

I have an Orange 1.1.2 officially unlocked and jailbroken. Nice. Except I cannot remember the number of my German SIM to get credit in it.

That makes sense. Though I don't recall doing very much to get it working. I dialled the *#307# (whatever it is ) and that is when I got the call from "1". Then I just turned off and back on and then I was able to go straight to the icons and set up WiFi, then get to Safari. I don't know, maybe I did something else too. The whole thing was a blur I was so scared I was probably just lucky!

Is the workaround documented? I would be interested to see how it compares to what I had to do to get mine working.

By the way, is there any way to to a full backup of the phone? So that if I try to update it in the future and it b0rks jailbreak, I can just restore the jailbroken 1.1.2 firmware which is currently on there and pick up where I left off instead of having to start all over again.
