Default [iTunes7/9]Songs play scratched in iTunes but normal in Windows Media Player

    Hi,

I am being faced by a peculiar problem. I have nearly 900 songs added in iTunes. 300 play normal, whereas other 600 songs play scrtachy/shreaky.

All these songs which play shreaky show now attributes other than the name field in iTunes.

I started facing this problem with iTunes 7, then upgraded to iTunes 8. Now, to iTunes 9. Still this problem is there. I tried all possible bit rate changes etc. did not work.

To my surprise all 900 songs, play just perfect with Windows Media Player or VLC Player.

Now, since I use iTunes to sync music to my iPod and iPhone, all these 600 songs play scratched in my iPhone/iPod as well.

    Desparate for a solution.
Please tell me what I should do ?

Can you provide more details of these files, are they MP3 or are they AAC. How were they encoded?

They are MP3, they used to play good till iTunes 6.

It is most likely these MP3s are slightly corrupt (most probably in the way the ID3 tags are written to these files) These ID3 tags are likely compressed or not correctly synchronised.

The newer versions of QuickTime are obviously more strict in parsing these files.

One clue is that these files show only name and no other fields in iTunes.

I don't use Windows for my music collection, so I can't recommend any tag cleanup programs. On OS X I use a program called Media Rage which offers powerful tag cleanup and manipulation functions.

Look for something similar to that on Windows - Maybe a program called Tag & Rename. You want something that can completely rewrite the ID3 tag section of the MP3 in a batch fashion. Test it on copies of your music first to be sure.

Also, please don't bump a topic each day just because you have not got a response yet. You're just going to annoy the very people who might help you.
