iPhone won't come back from recovery mode after downgrade (solved)
Hi.
Sorry if this has been addressed earlier, but couldn't find anything about this matter in the jungle of threads. I'm having some trouble downgrading. My iPhone is fairly old and originally came with the 1.0.0 firmware. Before trying upgrading to 1.1.3, the iPhone ran 1.1.2, unlocked with iPhoneSimFree. Worked like a charm. Then I followed the instructions on how to upgrade to 1.1.3 using OS X. everything went fine until installer.app started installing the 1.1.3 soft upgrade. After a minute or two out in the install, the phone automatically restarted which i thought was a little early. It was then stuck in an infinite boot loop, rebooting every ten minutes or so. I put it in restore mode by using the home and sleep button, installed iTunes 7.5 and downgraded to 1.1.1. Upon completion, i got the usual 1015 error, the phone went into recovery mode and i tried to kickstart it using the most recent version of iNdependence. iNdependence crashed to desktop every time. Then put the phone back in recovery mode and went back to 1.0.2. Still iNdependence quit to desktop on every try. Tried AppTapp Installer and got the message "bootstrap failed". In all the attempts I made sure iTunes and itunes helper wasn't running.
So no I'm stuck with an iPhone in recovery mode. The only way i can get it out of recovery is by upgrading to 1.1.2, but then jailbreak and activation would be impossible if i'm not mistaken. Sorry for posting such a big chunk of text, but i've been trying to fix this for 6 hours now, am a tiny bit frustrated and hoped someone else might know what to do :-)

Your problem is/was independence. I ran though the same stuff.
After downgrading to 1.1.1 I opened Independence 1.3.2beta. BTW I have version 7.6 of iTunes installed.
Independence kicked the iphone after a minute or so to the activation screen where I could use the *#307# trick to get into Safari and use jailbreakme.com to activate and jailbreak the iphone.
So I ended into an activated 1.1.1 phone without getting connected to a carrier. The carrier list was grayed out.
So I repeated the mac jailbreak version and this time it took longer to execute the script but ended into a "script execution failed". So I turned my iphone off and on again and now:
1.1.3 FULLY WORKING :p

I'm having a almost the same problem, but when i downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 threw itunes i keep getting this error message saying that -the iphone "iphone" could not be restored. an unknown occurred (1) and i read in hack the phone that if it fail keep on try again it been two days already and no luck. In the many try i done the phone was going in the boot mode non-stop and other trys it display i think the bootloader. but right now its unactivated and not jailbroken. since the jailbreak for 1.1.3 is out, i was hopeing that i could get it to work for me. Can someone tell me what i did wrong.. Thank so much

Thanks for the answers :-)
ronin74:
Thanks, hadn't thought of the jailbreak.jar. Upgrading to 1.1.1 and testing that one as i write this.
Edit:
Solved! What finally did it was to upgrade iTunes to 7.6 again and run the iNdependence 1.3.2 beta while iTunes was running. Thanks so much for putting me on the idea ronin74 :-)
