    Default iPhone without AT&T

    Hello,

in some forumīs some person write that they donīt unlock the Phone because of they have buyed the iPhone with an AT&T contract. And they pay the romaing price for every call. And they have to pay the hole 2 years.
I get my Iphone from the Apple Stor in NY. And i have buyed it without an AT&T contract. Was this ilegal?!?!!?

    Thanks SirDuerk

    Nope - there's nothing illegal
When connecting to iTunes the first time you can order your contract with AT&T - or not - as you like. Proably you won't ...
Simply click "cancel" twice and start with one of the activation methods mentioned here in the forum - and then have fun without AT&T

Thanks, i made this 4 weeks ago.
But in some forumīs i saw it.
So i was a littel bit confused.

    Thanks for your answer.

    Is the Software unlock illegal?
Because, my iPhone is my own, and with my own i can do what i want. Is that correct?
i know if i do the unlock (I WILL DO IT), maybe i will loose the warranty?!?!?

Re: AT&T. According to my sources -- haven't tried myself -- assuming that you were very rich indeed and were willing to pay the ROAMing charges to AT&T -- I have been told that in order to qualify for service with AT&T you need 1) a US SSN or social security number, 2) a US address and 3) a US credit card.

Re: the SSN trick of 999-99-9999 that you will no doubt read elsewhere, doesn't work any longer. Entering this number will result in a "give us a call" email from AT&T. The downside of this is that you're going to need to remove your SIM card each time you wish to sync yourr activated iphone to iTunes if you take this route or you'll receive a lovely little "In the process of activating" message each time you connect your phone to your iTunes.
