Default iPhone will not turn on

So I just bought a used iPhone cheap off my friend becuase he told me it doesnt work. When I press the home button, the screen lights up and I get this screen:

So I plugged it in, and let it charge for a while, but now the screen doesnt light up or respond at all. When I plug and unplug the iphone cord, the iphone makes noise, but I can't turn it on nor make the screen respond.

I read a couple of threads about this and I just wanted to know if anyone has anymore suggestions. As soon as I get home, I will try a full restore, but does ANYONE know what possibly could be wrong?

    Hi

When the battery goes totally flat the phone will not respond until it see enough charge to manage the power on cycle.

How long have you left it connected to the charger?

Em that would be plenty of time for the phone to charge enough to switch on

But I would still be thinking alone the lines of a battery charging problem maybe you could try a replacement.
