I have a jailbroken 3.1.2 iPhone 3GS. The carrier is Fido. I only have a 500 MB data plan so Fido will not officially enable tethering for me. So I looked into doing it myself.

I tried the bspatch method (Enable Tethering on iPhone 3.1.2 - ONLY 3G & 3GS) but it didn't work - probably because I couldn't find a proper mobileconfig for Fido. When I tried to enable tethering, the phone said please contact Fido to enable tethering.

Can anyone help me?

you need to enter the correct APN, username and password for Internet and Tethering. If you have the wrong one, then iPhone can not connect to the Internet and you will see the popup. Usually it's enough, to use for tethering the same APN as for Internet and additional the CommCenter-patch against the APN-Signature! You have to reboot after applying the patch and the IPCC or mobileconfig, before it works.

How do I know the correct APN, username, and password?

All I know is that I'm using Fido.

Update: I got it working.

The first thing I tried is to use the custom IPCC generator listed in the stickies of this subforum. I filled in as many fields as I could and followed the instructions carefully. Tethering still did not work, but the IPCC was successfully applied because I could see the changes I made.

So then I googled for custom Fido IPCC files and came across this: Firmware 3.0 All Inclusive Jailbroken Awesomeness! - Page 182

I downloaded it and applied it (just remove .zip ending of the file). I rebooted the phone and it worked!
