iphone stuck in recovery mode; need vrecording off
gather round for a tale of iphone woe:
the last two weeks have been two of the most horrible in my life.
during this time, i used my jailbroken 1.1.1 iphone with vnotes (voicenotes) to record some of the happenings.
this morning (thanksgiving of all days), in a hazy state of mind, i thought, before i go see family, i'll update to 1.1.2. and go from there with the conceited 1.1.2 jailbreak.
i wasn't watching closely, as the jailbreak 1.1.2 documentation said it would take forever, but, i think somewhere near the beginning (before?) of the update it failed (this was on a ppc mac (if that helps), and of course, i didn't write the error number down). and of course, my phone is stuck in recovery mode. and of course, i didn't ssh the voicerecording off the phone first. (and of course, it's thanksgiving, so, if help does exist, it's probably farther removed).
the recording is both very negative in regards to the last few weeks of my life, and very personal. i can't allow it into the hands of others, nor do i want to lose it either. horrible, but important to me.
shy of that, there are some text messages and a few other recordings on there that are important to me, but, i would be able to survive without.
i am fairly savvy on the mac (not proficient in command line? something along the lines of i can write, but i can't read?i follow instructions wonderfully), but inexperienced on the underbelly of the iphone.
it's possible a restore would not overwrite my data, but, i don't want to risk that unless someone knowledgeable can advise (i realize, especially now, there are no guarantees). looking a little bit more at support.apple.com, it looks like a restore is not what i want until i get my data off.
i have access to both ppc and intel macs, and windows machines (more conveniently parallels on the mac, but a fullblown desktop if i need it).
i did help a friend with an iphone who didn't want the phone use independence to turn it into an iphonepod. we used independence, and during the whole deal, i somehow put his into recovery mode, but, through a mixture of steps i couldn't repeat if i tried (probably also using independence), i got his back to where it should be. problem with using independence now: on leopard (x.5), firmware is probably 1.1.1 still, but could be 1.1.2, and itunes compatibility or lack thereof.
if you can at all help, gosh, i don't know what i'd do. i still haven't met up with family because i've been scouring the net.
