iPhone still at 1.0 firmware... update or not?
hi all, my beloved iPhone is still sitting in its virgin 1.0 state as i have been afraid to update for fear that doing so could lock me out of possible unlocking scenarios, and i've read mixed things about whether downgrading is really possible or not.
can anyone advise as to whether i should go ahead and upgrade to get the fixes or should i hang on longer? i do have some of the issues like battery not seeming to ever finish charging, weird scrolling in safari at times, etc...
if it is really true that downgrades are possible (and if anyone could point me towards where to download images to backup) i would feel a lot safer...
thx in advance for any insight friends..!

For NOW, don't update or anything. Unlocking procedures may require that you have 1.0. Also, downgrading is never good for any device. Take my PSP for example, hacks can only run on 1.5 or below, I updated mine to 2.6, I found a downgrader. After downgrading hacks will run etc, but in the section where it says what firmware the PSP has, its just scrambled letters, and when i try to just update to the newest version, it won't even do it anymore. Downgrade is a no no for me from PSP experience. I assume it might be the same for PS3 and therefore applying the same common sense on iPhone. No updating for me, at least for now.

A couple of days ago, I would have told you: stay tight and don't update.
Right now I'm using FW 1.0.2 (the latest one) with my iPhone and a TurboSIM and everything works perfectly, no problems. I also uploaded a ringtone to my iPhone, so I jailbreaked and put it to jail again, no problems here either.
The FW 1.0.2 may be the last chance to get a couple of bugfixes before a software unlock will be available for the iPhone, forcing Apple to introduce some sort of countermeasures, very likely with firmware updates.
Of course I can't promise that the FW 1.0.2 works with a possible unlock solution but if it works with the TurboSIM, if jailbreaking and SSH install still work, I suppose there is no real danger in installing the latest 1.0.2 FW.
What happens next is up to Apple but I'm pretty sure that they won't just sit there and not do anything about a software unlock.

The current hardware hack, found by Geo can't be wiped out. For this reason, i believe that updating the phone can do no harm for unlocking it afterwards.
Am also, since this morning on the latest firmware, No problems encountered with supersim.
