If those messages are stored on the sim card, could it be possible to write a native app that accesses those messages? Just as a temporary fix until this gets fixed by apple.

Well I am having the same issue, however I do not think this is an iPhone bug, nor activation method. I have 2 iPhones, both were unlocked following the same steps, and both are under the same carrier (Movistar Mexico). I don't know why one is able to get the carrier SMS and the other is not... if anyone has any ideas on what kind of testing can I do to determine the difference between both iPhones, let me know...

glad to hear that at least someone can receive these on an unlocked phone.
No luck here, bank and voicemail SMSs are not received using turbosim unlock on Telstra in Australia. Everything else works fine.

In fact, that is just weird. I'm on the same network and definitively network
message won't come in, that's cause movistar is sending the text movistar
as the sender, not a numeric value. That is the problem, the non numerical values won't pass.
The only time I managed to get a carrier SMS, it arrived, but my SMS app crashed
everytime I opened it cause it won't recognize non numeric senders.
If you are able to receive this messages, please check where are they coming
from, maybe one phone is prepaid and the other one is in a plan.

Some other differences between my 2 iphones...
All right guys, I found something else that may be of interest, maybe someone smarter than me can figure it out what is different on both iphones with this information:
As I already stated:
* Both iPhones were activated using the same method (iunlocker - first release)
* Both were activated using independence (before the youtube fix)
* Both have the manual you tube fix (through terminal on mac)
* both are on the same operator (Movistar Mexico)
* Both have same firmware 1.0.2 (1C28) and 03.14.08_G Modem Firmware... IMEI and SN are correctly displayed for each and the ICCID are different (because of Different SIM CARDS)
However:
* One is able to receive operator messages or SMS (missing calls, payments done, etc)
* One is NOT able to receive operator messages
Well, another difference that I have found is:
Under General Settings -> Phone:
* The one that IS NOT able to receive operator messages (SMS) shows My Number is (899) XXX-XXXX - showing the actual number of the SIM card, this number is also shown on the iTunes.
* The one that is able to receive the operator messages (SMS) DOES NOT show any number at all, nor in the iPhone, nor in the iTunes either.
I will keep digging for more differences...
BTW: has anyone notice on the iPhone Settings: General -> About - that at the top of the screen says jiPhone, instead of iPhone? is it a typo or did we change it during the unlock process???

Can someone try disable CallerID sent out, see if you can get carrier SMS?

Ok.
A friend of mine found a way to figure this out by doing a setting with CallerID, not sure where it is. Will ask him what he exactly did.

For the record, I don't get T-Mobile's SMSes on T-Mobile prepaid plan.
