Default iphone + itunes optimizing images

okey, so when syncing my images to my iphone, itunes wants to optimize them first.. this is probably resizing, making thumbnails etc?

    however, my problem is:

i tried so sync a folder with 62 images, which i had resized in photoshop already and I think the folder size was 10 mb or something..

when transferred to the iphone, it says that my pictures occupate 40mb of storage space.

then I tried to transfer the same 62 images, only i didn't resize them in photoshp first, so they were about 170mb..

still when transferred to the iphone they were 40mb

Is there any way to disable apples image optimizing? Or is it needed to create the thumbnails? I really think the 10mb pictures i had originally were better then the ones that has gone through itunes and become 40mb. Anyone agree/disagree?

Would love som input on this subject.. I haven't been able to find much info on it

whats the point in having an 8 mega pixel digi cam, and then have the pictures compressed.
