iPhone Incompatible with some GSM SIMs?
My software-unlocked 1.12 phone and I just arrived in sunny Aruba and appear to have found a weird bug in the GSM service here provided by a company called SETAR. Basically, the phone works fine if I use my existing SIM from canada, but obviously the roaming & data rates would be obscene. So I bought a local 3G-Capable (thats all they have, thought i should mention it) GSM SIM and threw it in my phone. I entered the unlock code and the iphone seemed to accept everything...but when I tried to dial a number, the keypad application 'crashes' and reverts to the springboard before I can even finish dialing. I tried tossing my old canadian SIM back in and voila, problem solved. So does anyone have any idea why an iPhone would display such weird symptoms using a gsm sim in Aruba?
cheers.

A SIM for 3G will not work in an iPhone, they are not a GSM SIM, they are an "enhanced" version called a USIM

that's annoying. The dude who sold it to me said that it would work in any gsm phone regardless of 3G support, actually the manual that came with the sim said the same thing. I guess the iPhone is the exception to the rule when it comes to backwards compatible 3G sim support?

The iPhone is known for having a lot of exceptions, so I guess this is one of them.

The SIM that comes with the iPhone (AT&T) is blue with a orange "3G" logo on it, isn't it?

the iphone doesn't work with 3G sim??
that's bullshit!
i know a lot of guys and gals that work their iphones with 3G sims.
maybe there's something wrong with that specific sim card...
try inserting the new sim and double restart the iphone.

It shouldn't matter, hell the SIM that comes with the iPhone is a 3G ATT sim. (In the US Atleast)

I tried all that restarting stuff and still no luck, everything works but the phone app

You have to use iWorld from installer or it crashes the apps when you use foreign sims
