Apple may "patch" the hack that most of us have exploited to unlock our phones.
Just as we reverse engineer the iPhone to find out how to put our own programs on them or use different phone companies' SIM cards in them, they could read this board, download the files and figure out how to lock the barn door again.
Did anyone notice the MODEM firmware is updated too, especially if you've used unlock.iphone.no?
Can I sync my iPhone to my Newton?

Noticed that too, but I'm not too worried about an update. We have some great developers here and I'm sure we won't have to miss out on the updates for long.

There may be a way to close the door for the software hack but we just hope that Apple stays NEUTRAL like they declared in an interview, meaning that they won't specifically "target" the software hack to make it impossible in the future.
I still think that Apple is under pressure from AT&T and future iPhone carrier partners to make it as difficult as possible to unlock the iPhone but I still hope that Apple feels the energy and passion coming from the iPhone independent development community, so they close an eye...or two...as long as possible.
One advice can be only: DO NOT update your iPhone with new firmware updates from Apple until there is no software hack update available. I just restored two software hacked iPhones with the FW 1.0.2 using iTunes 7.4.1 and the hack was gone. Just a reminder...

I thought the free software hack was immune to restoring your iPhone 1.0.2?

No unlock is immune to possible problems
There is no assurance that any "hack" will persist across upgrades.
1) Any upgrade to the baseband firmware will necessarily and unavoidably undo the unlock. It's not a matter of Apple's intent, it's automatic since any replacement baseband firmware will not be patched (but it could possibly be decompiled and patched once again).
2) Apple is certainly under a contractual obligation to AT&T to attempt to keep the platform locked. This is a basic and trivial expectation in any contract they might have. They must be required to pay due diligence to keeping the device secure.
The incessant questions about this are a bit silly, since aside from the above facts, nobody really knows what's Apple's upper management plans (recently interviews are not binding), or what will be upgraded in the near future. Personally, I would expect the unlock to be seriously disabled in the next 2 to 6 months as a result of (2) above.

Hi there,
if found two other new things too.

New Calculator Icon and the Icon from the Clock App. seems to show the
real time.. Not spectacular, but different. ;-)

I made an update of iTunes 30 Minutes ago and looked into "About iTunes":
There I can read: "iTunes 7.4.1.2", "CD-Driver ..." AND "Apple Mobile Device 1.1.1.1"
Does this mean that Apple already sends out the new iPhone Firmware 1.1.1 with iTunes?
Or is it only loaded when i really want to update my iPhone Firmware.
I'm not having an iPhone yet, so I can't check it out.
I'm getting my iPhone today in the evening, and so I am very curious ...
Or does this "Apple Mobile Device 1.1.1.1" mean something different?
Thx in advance!
