iPhone in the Exchange World
So what's the story with Enterprise Life for the iPhone?
I have heard that last Fall 2006's meeting between Apple and Good- didn't go well,
but that Apple has been pursuing the use of ActiveSync and DirectPush.
Do you think they will do this with a 3rd party solution or boldly, as they do often, on their own? I strongly believe that the updates that will come forth with Leopard will provide this.

just a few days before the release of the iPhone, Apple licensed the Direct Push/ActiveSync software so I would imagine that it will be implemented before too long. But in the meantime, you can use IMAP to access exchange email. The downside on that is there is a problem with the IMAP implementation where if you delete and email on the iphone, it does not delete on the server.

true. IMAP is not an option for my servers
so i gotta carry around this shitty Treo 680 + Good 5 with an ATT SIM
(which wouldnt work in the iphone anyway) what a tease. iphone remains SIMless just cuz. i believe m$ft and aapl will play nice and get the frameworks poppin'

IMAP with exchange works great for me. I have outlook configured with IMAP, OSX Mail conifigured with IMAP, and iPhone mail configured with IMAP. They all synchronize correctly. If i delete mail from my phone it is synchronized with everything. The only problem is no push IMAP. So I do not have the delete problem described above.

Can you please explain your setup...
I have exchange server 03, and I am unable (or at most times unable) to send via smtp out of the phone.
I have no idea why, as I have tried every simple solution, and yet I can realy only send over edge period. Wifi does not work for sending via exchange on iphone for me.
In addition, I have all settings on the exchange server set correctly (I believe) as the incomming works flawlessly, all folders and public ones (with the 1.01 update).
Furthermore, the syncing is out of the question for me, it shows if I have read an e-mail, but if I delete it or move it on the phone, nothing but showing "read" on the server happens.
Can you please enligten me on your success?
Thanks in advance.

do you have SSL enabled on the Exchange?
-
I was told not to, due to exchange wanting certificates and handshakes etc.
Should I be looking in that area, as my settings for success after days testing smtp are non secure settings on iphone for incoming and out.
All help you can offer I am greatful for.
I should mention that when I can send via edge, it takes forever for success, like 2 minutes min. This is really frustrating me; I don't want to continue to relay via my mac address as my customers respond not knowing my correct company e-mail.
Thanks for your reply, if you have quesitons, I wil be a specific as I am able.

Just FYI, I did finally call Apple today for the heck of it. The guy actually made a statement that surprised me.. He said about 99% of customers cannot send via this method properly.
WTF is up with this, incomming and folders- no problem... outgoing is like surgery trying to figure out.
