What power did you connect it to? I today noticed that the older larger ipod chargers which have the firewire connector on them are 12 volt whereas the iphone charger is 5 volts. I forsee someone using the ipod charger since the other end from the firewire cable is the standard dock connector, which will fit the iphone. This would be a fair overload and would no doubt cause the iphone to become very hot and no doubt inoperative. You probably did not do this, but I am writing this as a warning to others.

The phone can become hot if you are using waste amount of cpu power i.e. running background process which require lots of CPU time. The software unlock itself can asblutly not casue such behaviour, if your phone did not run anything as background process (an open ssh sessions via wlan is sometimes enough) the heat is proberly due to a hardware defect of some kind.

Since the phone is completely dead there is no way apple will know it is unlocked, and probably won't check anyway. Opening the phone up will most certainly void the warranty as it can't be done without lots of evidence remaining. If I were the poster I would not open it up unless apple refuses to fix it.

when you are lockated in us,
go to the apple store, they going to replace it,

    doesn´t matter unlocked or not,
cause when is died they can´t proof it!

if your not in us, send it to someone whith original receipt
and ask him to replace it...

    good luck
