please do this to see if we have the same problem, connect the phone to power, and then take the back of the phone (near the apple logo) very next to your ear and wait if you can hear a very slow noise like tatatatatatatatatata.... That disapears when you unplugged the phone. If you can hear this we have the same problem.

My iPhone is dead.
I did something stupid and plugged it into my friend's older Apple Ipod Speaker system. I just wanted to see if it would fit in the dock. It did. I took it out and put it on the table.
Picked up my iPhone 5 minutes later and the phone was burning hot. Phone doesn't power on, doesn't get recognized through the PC via USB, doesn't respond to the wall charger.
It's now cooled down but I think the battery is now burnt out or somehow overloaded.
What do you think are my chances at exchanging the iPhone at the Apple Store for another one? I mean, the staff won't be able to power on the unit so the fact that it's unlocked/hacked shouldn't make a difference, right?

It does souond as if it is fried. I would err on the side that it is still good and run some AC directly into it. Better be safe than sorry. Especially when dealing with apple/ att. Rig up something to fit in the headphone jack and hit it with some juice. If it smells burnt or smokes, your prolly good to go.
Suggestion for the next iphone ya get, ya might not want to tinker with anything you are not 100% sure will produce favorable results..

This happened to me, I killed my iphone when connecting to my belkin ipod charger. I tried everything, I could not sleep that night, happened about 2 weeks ago, right before christmas, I left town the next morning with no iphone, but I took it along to mess with it, couldnt do a damn thing...took it to the store, they replaced it did not ask for id, did not ask for a receipt, only my ATT sim card hehe. but it would be interesting to note that I do not have 2 year contract but they gave my new phone to me activated already? wonder how they did that...

for those who are interested, i successfully swapped out my non-att & hacked iphone at the apple store nyc. if they can't turn it on, they can't verify anything themselves so they were basically forced to provide me with a replacement unit. the guy at the genius bar did seem skeptical though and even went as far as sniffing the sim slot to see if it "burnt the sim" as i claimed.

what did you do when they asked for your sim card to put in your new phone?

"it's a gift that wasn't ready to be activated yet. we're waiting on our t-mobile contract to end next month before we activate it"
