iPhone could not be restored. There is not enough memory available
Hi guys,
you all seem the be fairly acquainted with all possible iPhone problems. I was searching this forum for an answer to my problem. iTunes won't restore my iPhone because of an error mentioned in the title of this topic - The iPhone could not be restored. There is not enough memory available. I haven't found anything on the net that I haven't tried yet.
Am using Windows XP, iTunes 7.4.3 and the iPhone used to be on the firmware 1.0.2. I was trying to do the restore but it gave me that error message. I tryed uninstalling everything with WinASO registry cleaner (something like Registry Mechanic), iTunes, apple device thing(or whatever), installed it 3 times, tried to force the previous firmware with Shift+restore, but nothing. I also tried to switch USB ports. I followed the instruction on how to remove iTunes exactly like it was described in another thread - no success.
Is there any help you can maybe provide, but don't tell me to go/send it to an Apple Store, since I live in Europe, where there is no official iPhone yet.
Pkease help
PS: I will try to update/restore the iPhone on a different system today, I will post the details
PSS: At least point me to the right forum thread if there is one already helping people with this problem

I also tried iBrikr 0.91 and it won't locate the phone.
iNterface or Jailbreak is detecting the iPhone but doesn't like the MODE its in, so it won't go on doing its thing
is there any way I can force an update through some other program alternative to the iTunes?
Thanx for your help

PS: It's not a memory availability issue, I have more than 20 GBs on every HDD and my 4 GB iPhone hasn't been using any near its 50% capacity.

i had the same issue, try changing version of itunes, if doesn t work you will have to use a different computer (it is what i ve done)

I had the same problem on m PC, had to ask my brother to do it on a real computer (Mac). PC sucks, can't even run iTunes correctly.

So I finally made it work
this is how I was able to bring my iPhone back to life.
I wasn't even able to run iBrickr on my machine anymore, so I went to the office and tried on a different PC with the version 7.3.2.6. downloaded firmware 1.0.2. but still, it gave me the error message.
So I tryed iBricker and he recognized it and I ran the "let the iPhone boot up" option, but that sent me into an endless loop of rebooting and reseting, I just couldn't handle watching my phone suffer like this
. So I checked the forum and solved this little issue by shutting down all processes in the Aplication control panel (iTuneshelper and that kinda sort). I finally got back to the triangle screen - still no go for restore with iTunes.
So I played a bit with iBricker again and jailbreak and installer, and finally came accross apptapp installer (not the plist or pxl file) I mean the executable. Well it did it's thing and didn't finish at all. So I quit the apptapp installer and just to make sure rebooted my iPhone, well and there it was, the slider to unlock the phone (only to get to the springboard - the phone was still SIM locked).
Nothing was erased, all my contacts, emails, bookmarks, SMS, everything there.
The phone still had OpenSSH, Installer, BSD Subsystem. So didn't have to worry with a totaly virginized iPhone.
Well and at home, iBrickr still couldn't connect to my Phone to install AnySim so I went (ON MY IPHONE Safari) to http://i.unlock.no and added to my AppTapp, ran it and everything was in order than.
And how I even got here, I followed this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13170 and than tryed to restore to 1.1.1. and there it happened. iTunes gave me this f*king error. So be carefull out there. I have a 4GB model with 1.0.2., bought it already hacked, but don't know which software hacked it the first time. Eventhough it says idiot proof guide and I followed the instruction to the word, It went this bad.
There might be a problem with my phone or what ever, but I probably won't be able to find out how it was hacked the first time anymore
Take care and thanx for your help

I had the same problem just a few minute ago.
Do this:
Get the lastest version of ibrick (i guess is v0.91)
Then open it, and click on "boot iphone"
Then it say it will try to fix your iphone, after a few seconds (maybe minutes) voila!
Your Iphone would be working again!
WTB i still can't upgrade it to 1.1.1 because it still says that there is not enough memory to do so.

That happend to me when i was first unlocking my iPhone.
That errors shows up if your Windows XP is not in english. In my case it's in spanish.
You must go to Properties on "My Computer". Advanced Tab. Enviromental Variables (or sth like that, i'm translating). And change the Temporary entrys (TMP, TEMP) to C:\Temp. Apply changes, restart and iTunes will work

hey bmn,
that is interesting, so I found the settings you describe (yes, my system is not in English) and there are two entries (TEMP and TMP) So I should change both of them to C:\Temp ??? or should I delete TMP and only leave one
Please write more about this because I want to still try to upgrade to 1.1.1.

UPDATE
So I tried it again, virginized it with the tutorial here which has worked flawlessly, but as soon as I try to update/restore in iTunes, the very same error. I followed the instructions with the changing C:\TEMP into Temp, but still no go. The problem might be the fact that I am not using Vista, if it has something to do with it at all?
I now also know, that only AppTapp Installer will repair this mess. Afterwards download AnySim 1.1 to AppTapp (directly with iPhone's Safari) from here and there you go. Still on my 4GB iPhone with 1.0.2. firmware. Will not try to upgrade anymore, unless via Vista or Mac - and I will wait till next year when there will be an official release in my country and buy a new iPhone.
