iPhone Clock Sync on UK networks
So my iPhone turned up today from New York, it's amazing
I haven't done an unlock yet but I noticed that the clock has synced to UK time. It was purchased in the Apple Store, NY and hasn't been opening. How has it synced the time?
Is this news? Or has it already been discovered?

I suppose you activated the iPhone in a way or another?
The answer is pretty simple: since you can make 112/911 calls from the iPhone without even the need of a SIM card, the phone can sync to the network time.
The 112/911 capability is a standard of the GSM specification, all GSM phones need to allow dialing the international GSM emergency number 112 (911 in the US?) without a subscription or a valid/any SIM card. Nice feature.

I tried the emergency call function to 911 (don't worry, I'm in the UK so it didn't connect), I suppose that's where it picked up the time from?
Does the time run with the GSM signal then? Just suprised it hadn't been mentioned before. I haven't unlocked or registered at all. It's sat on my desk and I can't wait to get home!
