Default iPHONE in Canada (possibly unlocked)

Well, as most of us heard on the net or even on the news such as CP 24, people who live in Ontario would know what that is, is that the iPHONE is coming to Canada fairly soon and will be sold at the HoltRenfrew store. For people that dont know what holtrenfrew is, its just a clothing store that carries hi end clothing brands, such as hugo, versace.. and so on. So now there are 2 gsm carriers in Canada, Rogers and Fido, however both are owned by the same company Rogers. So now a question comes to mind. Since Rogers sells their pphones at a discount if you were to go on a contract or at a regular price if you didnt want to go on a contract. And i dont think apple was a fond of that idea and rogers in my mind wasnt going to change the way they do their business. So now a question is asked weather the iPHONE will be unlocked so people can use it under any gsm carriers or will it still be locked to rogers, but that would make no sense since rogers would not be actually carrying the phone.

i think that's a silly question. if you ever bought a fone from rogers, you would know that, even you don't sign a contract and buy the fone at regular price, the fone is still locked to rogers. there is NO unlocked fone sold in canada!

plus, holt renfrew has confirmed that they are NOT carrying iphone.

This reminds me of a more interesting question, at least for me.

I don't know if there're any other countries that are like this but if I remember correctly, there's a law in Thailand that says you cannot lock your phone to your carrier. There's NO LOCKED PHONE SELLING IN THAILAND!!!

In the past, there're 2 GSM carrier in Thailand, AIS and DTAC, and if you buy a phone from AIS you can't put in a DTAC sim card and use it. Then there was new law that force all carriers to unlock their phones, including the one that was already sold. Now there're 3 GSM carriers and you can use any phone bought from anyone with any carrier.

Now the question is iPhone is coming to Thailand in 2008 but what will Apple do since no carriers can sell locked phone? Will it be sold unlocked with higher price? (That's what usually happened.) But if it is to be sold unlocked, even more interesting question follows. Can you buy already-unlocked iPhone in Thailand and use it in any other countries without hacking it? There's never been a question like this since there's never been a phone wanted so much globally before.
