This is not specific to the iPhone. Its with ANY rechargeable battery. People act like the iPhone is the only phone that battery dies after a period of time. That is how rumors get started. I get constantly told that the iPhone "sucks" because the battery only last a short time. (but in reality, 400-600 charges is about 1-2 years of usage. And usually then the battery STARTS to depreciate.(from maybe 400 charges the battery may last 10-20 mins less(just an example))

My iPod is almost 2 years old. The battery is still good.

the battery will only degrade to a maximum of around 80% its original capacity. apple actually has charts and definations of "one charge cycle" on its web site. just search for battery life on apple.com its ridiculously thorough.

I usually run around 5 days between charges (battery going down to around 20%). At that rate after 5-6 years (400 chrges) I will be down to 4 days between charges (80% capacity). According to batteryuniversity.com, I could do a little better by charging daily (best to charge them before they run down). I'm a lazy bastard, I'll live with it.

I guess its like a laptop always being plugged in to the wall-outlet. Once it reaches the full charge, it will cut charging and only supply the phone itself for the operation needs.

I would though use it on battery at times, but I guess a "mobile" phone leaves the house from time to time, so you should be good

    Ben
