If i got this right, you have to buy the iphone with a att sim card + sign a 2 year rate plan?

Then i wonder how all you non-US residents have managed to get your iphone.. Are you all now signed to att for 2 years or what?

I live in Sweden, and I wonder what i shall do to get my hands on this little gadget. I have some friends in the states that could buy it for me, but I don't want them to be stuck with a 2 year contract with att, unless it won't cost them any money.. I don't really know if rate plans and such works differently in the states.

No. If purchasing from the Apple online store or going to an Apple store - you go in, you plunk down your credit card, and you walk out with a phone. I believe the same goes for walking into an AT&T store.

Signing up for the plan doesn't happen until you plug your phone into a computer and load up iTunes. You are then walked through the plan at that point.

Of course, no one is forcing you to perform this last step.

you also don't need to get a 2 year plan. A friend of mine got his with a month to month rate just slightly higher than the contract monthly, he has horrible credit.
