[iphone 3G] unable to restore, error 1015
So i tried to restore my 2,4year old iphone through itunes. I get the 1015 error... Tried recboot and such, now my iphone is stuck in restore mode. Can't kick him out, can't get him to finish the restoration.
What are my options? I don't have any warrenty anymore :/ I did switch providers but my contract was over for a while so it should be np.
I have the latest itunes on my win7 computer.
However, i tried to restore it on a macbook, and it still got the 1015 message :/
As far as i know, it hasn't been jailbroken or something (i bought the phone from a friend and used it for a while with no problems).
The iPhone was bought in france
PS: tried to jailbreak it to resolve it but it didn't help because it stayed in restoration mode :/ i'm open to suggestions though!

Publish your iTunes restore log (the one that failed with 1015) - instructions are in my signature.
Did you load the iPad baseband to allow unlock via ultrasn0w?
1015 means that you tried to downgrade your 3GS's baseband, this is prohibited by Apple's security model (you can downgrade the OS but not the baseband)
The baseband controls the radio functions (making phone calls, 3G data traffic etc)
I can suggest you three solutions:
Make a custom IPSW (using pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze) with baseband update disabled - restore with this. This may fix the 1015 error.
If you are restoring to iOS 4.2.1 - try using FixRecovery (downloadable from thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com)
Restore to an older iOS version and use recboot to exit past the 1015 error

error log - Pastebin.com
OK that's my error log on pastebin...
What are you hoping to find with it? And as far as i know, i'm not downgrading him or anything... I don't get why i get the message. I receive the message when the restoration is nearly done :s
Any chance you have an instruction video or something? I'm not really good with computers, i just follow the steps in video's or guides!
Also, i have a win7 64-bit computer... which kinda sucks when i tried to use certain programs.
Thanks for your fast response btw!
EDIT: fixrecovery doesn't work... it gets 2 error messages + doesn't find my device in DFU
and tiny umbrella only works for 32bit windows

Yes the restore is trying to downgrade baseband
Version ICE2-05.15.04 is available, ICE2-06.15.00 is already loaded
/ somewhere along the line this phone has had the baseband updated to the iPad baseband (6.15)
See http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/196391.htm for restore suggestions from the guys who came up with the iPad baseband + ultrasn0w unlock solution.

I also run win7 x64 and except TinyUmbrella - have had no real issues.
FixRecovery was a bit of a stretch, I'm not sure if the limera1n exploit applies to the 3G iPhone.

Choose option A in the link I mentioned.
Get pwnagetool 4.1.3 and make a custom IPSW, say NO when asked if you want to update to the iPad baseband. Pwnagetool guide is on iClarified
Restore this custom IPSW and all should be fine again.
Windows users can use sn0wbreeze to make custom IPSW, but I can't give you details on how to do this with sn0wbreeze as I never use it.

pwnage tool is xOS only i think :/ so i first have to look for someone with a macbook...
if i do, i need to do it fast though
edit: trying redsn0w now... but i'm starting to doubt my OS...
I'm unsure i if i had the latest OS or not :/
i selected 4.2.1... but redsnow thinks it's an iphone 4 for some reason... and is waiting for a reboot and such but doesn't do it
now trying sn0wbreeze, and i get this message: NOT A VALID 4.0 IPSW -> tried 4.3.5 (4 GSM): iPhone3,1_4.3.5_8L1_Restore.ipsw and 4.2.1 (4): iPhone3,1_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

sn0wbreeze never works... It always says Not a valid 4.0 IPSW..... Don''t know what to do anymore :/
i guess i gotta find the right firmware first now :/ i thought it was the latest firmware but sn0wbreeze doesn't seem to accept it :s
how can i check the installed firmware?
i also found someone with a macbook... so i would be able to use pwnagetools but i first would need to know what firmware to choose that i don't have the same thing as sn0wbreeze... I think i downloaded all versions of firmware for the iphone 3G right now... all give error messages in sn0wbreeze

Redsn0w cannot fix this if your phone is running iOS 4.2.1

You are misinterpreting Apple's naming scheme for IPSWs
iPhone3,1 is the apple internal name for the iPhone 4
iPhone1,2 is the apple internal name for the iPhone 3G
So you need to download and use this IPSW http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/06...8_Restore.ipsw

Here is a guide for pwnagetool iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.1]
Skip step 6 (say no when asked if you want to load the iPad baseband)
In step 7, once you make sure "activate iPhone" is checked, skip ahead to step 8
