Default [iPhone 3G][iPhone Dev] Old iPhone for Dev purposes?

I am just wondering if anyone is considering buying the new phone and then using their old iPhone for development.

I am in the dev program, but would like to take advantage of both platforms for cross-compatibility etc.

Does anyone know off hand whether a previously legitimately activated iPhone would just lock up if the phone contract was transfered to another iPhone? Or whether it would stay open for development/use as an iPod/use as an iPlayer over WiFi?

    Cheers.

If the latest firmware is hacked yes... I was just speculating if both phones are upgraded to 2.0 whether anything strange would happen. I am guessing not...
