    Default Iota?

    Hi Guys:

My wife just won an iphone, and not wanting to shell out the $$$ to ATT, I want to unlock it to use with my current wireless carrier. Will an unlocked iphone support iota process?

It's a Hawaiian Telcom acronym for Internet Over The Air. I don't know if it's another name for gprs or what. Was hoping someone would know.

IOTA is short for IP-based Over-The-Air management. It's not like EDGE or GPRS, but rather the protocol for configuring a phone to work on a network. Also known as IOTA provisioning. This is used by Sprint in the US and is a CDMA technology.

Because it's a CDMA technology and not a GSM technology, it won't work with the iPhone and there is nothing you can do about it. The hardware is different.
