    Default Intermittent EDGE Network Issue (non noob)

    Basis of my problem is that I am having issues with my EDGE network. I have a 1.0.2 phone that was opened with Anysim to work on t-mobile. Until yesterday I have had no problems with the phone. Then yesterday I stared having problems going online. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't.

    The only thing that has changed is that I updated iTunes after having issues with syncing of the phone. Every time I would try and sync the phone would crash my windows system. After updating iTunes that problem was fixed. I DID NOT UPDATE TO 1.1.1. I know better. But one time, after crashing my computer, when I plugged my iPhone back in it asked me to do a restore. I did the restore because of the crash. I had never has this asked of me before and just assumed that it crashed while writing an important part of the iPod directory or something.

    Any of these issues sound familiar? Anyone else having intermittent network issues? Has anyone else had a failed sync that cause iTunes to ask you to do a restore to recognize the phone?

    I did call t-mobile and they got me all the way to tier 3 tech support trying to fix the issue. I am on my way to my local t-mobile store to get a replacement sim card to see if there is an issue with that. I am hoping that this solves the problem.

    If it is a hardware issue, what part of the phone would be having problems that would cause it to lose touch with the network? If I have to I will drive to my local ATT or Apple store, in restore mode, and try and get this baby replaced.

    im in the same boat as you! it just started happening to me this morning, although i wasnt having issues with iTunes and whatnot like you said, but i DID just recently upgrade itunes..

    let me know how the new sim works out and if anyone has any ideas, let us know!!

    oh but if you switch to wifi, theres no problems.

    sim card did not help. I also have no problems with wifi. My next step will be to downgrade iTunes.

    As far as I know iTunes does not change anything unless you update. I could be wrong. Could someone in the know give us some pointers?

    i have the exact same problem!

    i talked to the guys at t-mobile (spent about 2 hours on the phone with them) and it is not a t-mobile problem! they reset my internet connection about 5 times.
    btw, even though safari does not go online, google maps goes... which is weird.

    i updated my itunes also and when i plugged in my phone, i got an error that mobile device helper (or smt like that) encountered an error and needs to close. reinstalled my itunes and that was fixed. synced my phone and after that i did not use the net for a few hours. next thing i now, safari can't connect at all!

    so i guess it's something that the latest itunes does that screws around safari.

    Yes, I'm seeing this as well... I was seeing it last night when I was on 1.0.2 and I have upgraded to 1.1.1 this morning and still see intermittent problems. Not sure what the trigger is. I tend to have wifi connection most of the day then I'll change to just Edge and it will not connect. I'll try different websites and bounce the Edge connection using Services and then finally it kicks in and starts working.... Hopefully we can track down what the real issue is here...

    I also did this. The only difference between my problem and yours is that Maps, Weather Stocks and Safari all will not connect/update.

    scratch that.. maps stopped working! so i guess all of the connections work sometimes and sometimes they don't work.

    My otherwise fully working unlocked/jailbreaked/activated iPhone, used with a Vodafone Germany SIM, looses the EDGE connection settings each time I reboot my iPhone or sometimes even if I shut it off and on again.
    This is very weird because I don't seem to be able to fix this and I tried various methods, incl. some discussed in the forums.
