    that's all bullshit. there is no way to switch a "software versioning" from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1.

    it's just a mockup. and nothing else. all those "Apple Experts" are pissing me off.

    Yes, the graphic designer probably just overwrote all the 1.x.x digits with 1's to show some "future" version.

    But, if there is significant new features, the firmware could easily go:

    1.0
    1.0.1 = minor bug fixes
    1.0.2 = minor bug fixes
    1.1 = major new feature, eg, Wi-Fi Music Store, international keyboard support
    1.1.1 = minor bug fixes

    etc.

    In fact, if 1.1 failed extensive quality assurance (QA) within Apple's testing procedures, they could decide to reject that release and hop straight to the next one.

    (That has actually happened for several iLife products. But not iPod updates to my knowledge, and iPhone firmware updates are more like iPod firmware updates than desktop software.)

    mmm.. the word "quality assurance" and "Apple" sometime has failed to goes well together.... the guys in Cupertino are now working on wide numbers, nor for extreme quality.

    btw, iPhone's hack has been a REAL "God gift" to Apple sales managers, but really upset AT&T. So a new firmware version that can re-unlock the phone will be not appreciated by the HUGE customer base (remember? more than 1 million sold but less then 600.000 AT&T Activation... ) and Apple KNOWS that.

    I think that maybe the NEW 3G iPhone - for european customers - rumored to be released for second quarter of next year, will have a slightly different hardware... so the rush for the unlock will restart again.

    my 2 cents.

    My 2 Cents:
    The new update I think will relock the iphone. Yes is true 1 millon sold but less then 600,00 AT&T activation, but how much profit is that?
    Is it worth getting sued by AT&T what about the other company apple said it would be exclusive to their networks...
    I feel that is just much more money in it then selling iphones.
    If you want an iphone you have to play by the rules of apple.....

    Just what i think.

    Just wanna ask, if there is an update available, and I didn't choose to update. How can I restore the iPhone using the old firmware? I found the iTunes will choose and download the latest firmware to update it. How can I restore with those .ipsw files when they are all in iTunes Library folder?

    Thanks anyway.... but this question is not answered...

    Did not read the first post good enough it seems...

    Confirmed, on mac pressing 'alt' + restore gives you a browser window to chose firmware. But will iTunes accept using an older firmware if a newer one is available?
