Rogers seems to have a very odd definition of "unlimited" as can be seen on this page it says unlimited browsing then proceeds to list 2 packages (unlimited and uh... more unlimited?) $5 and $10 with clearly stated limits of 5mb and 10 mb respectively (limits on unlimited packages, how canadian)
if you try to get around anything on these i would say its very clear on the website that they will rape your bank account. they clearly state tethering is not permitted and hooking an iphone into this will look exactly like tethering to them. these new plans might actually be a step in the WRONG direction rather thant he right one.

ok just called fido and they told me you DON't need a fido phone to add on this unlimited plan. I asked the girl 3 times even told her what exactly I was doing...hell I even over heard her asking another operator if it was okay to use a non-fido phone. All yes!
I had her ad a note to my account and got her name so that if I got charged .5 per kb I had something to refer back to.

So she said its a $7 unlimited "surfing" plan. So now I have this wap unlimited plan to try for a day or two to see if it works.

    Any suggestions?

If you kept on making sure and she still confirmed, that would be f#$%^& awesome!

One dude in this thread was told the same thing. Why wrong info on the web site though? Or maybe these reps don't know for sure yet? "Didn't you get that memo?" LOL

I've pretty much given up on Rogers.
Not to mention the entire cellphone industry here in Canada.

As far as I'm concerned, Canada is a third-world country in many respects, the cellphone industry being a prime example. Canadian rates are ridiculously high as they are, and I'm not expecting Rogers, which basically has a telecommunications monopoly in this country, to do us consumers any favours by lowering their prices any time soon. Why would they? Seeing as how they are the only GSM network (Fido doesn't count since they are owned by Rogers) we're pretty much stuck with them if we want to use the iPhone.

Now when I decided to spring for an iPhone I knew this full well. I realized I wouldn't be able to make use of the phone's full functionality unless I was in a Wi-fi hotspot, and I'm alright with that. The iPhone is a fantastic product nonetheless, however I'm disgusted at Rogers for the way they carry on. Just take a look at this article regarding data rates in Canada: http://www.thomaspurves.com/2007/04/...e-data-access/

Yep, the 4 most expensive dataplans are all Canadian wireless carriers.

That being said, there's a tiny speck of hope. I heard that sometime this year the CRTC is supposed to open up the wireless market to competitors, which would force Rogers to lower their prices to stay in business. However, even if this were the case (I'll believe it when I see it) it'll be several years before any carrier sets up the infrastructure required to support a fully operational country-wide GSM network.

Of course nobody is forcing me to stay with Rogers, I realize that. But if I want to continue using my new toy, I really have no choice. Switch to Fido, you say? With the hassle involved in canceling my contract (oh yes did I mention that in Canada we have 3-year contracts?) just to save a few bucks a month is really not worth it.

Well I'd better wrap this up before I completely derail this thread.

I just hate Rogers SO MUCH.

i dunno dude, the fido website has been changed to reflect the rogers site. the $18 value pack which came with 12mb is now gone and replaced by this $20 one which has the unlimited wap (atleast fido does not have a limit on it anywhere unlike rogers) i really dont understand how this package whent up $2 in price and the data pack whent from $10 to $7...
you will have to wait until your billing cycle ends to see if you got charged anything, if you call in they cant see anything, they are however very good at taking the charges off.

i do feel there is a large possibility that the CS was not aware of the changes to the data pack, it is pretty minimal and defiantly written to make you believe its "unlimited" ( although in fidos case i believe it is)

The Unlimited surfing on your Fido option includes unlimited mobile surfing on your handset and is only available on selected handsets only (non-Fido certified handsets, Windows Mobile devices and PC cards are not eligible). Data usage incurred on ineligible handsets and devices, incurred while tethering (using a handset or device as a wireless modem or laptop) or incurred using non-Fido (third party) applications downloaded to your handset will be subject to a pay-per-use charge of 5 per KB. Option applies within Canada only. While roaming outside Canada, data transmission charge of 5 per KB apply, except in the U.S. where data transmission charges of 1 per KB apply.

If I'm not mistaken, you can verify your usage online. If you noticed you are really not getting charged, it's pretty amazing. And how is the speed?

    +1

Yes...I feel the same way towards Rogers. It's just so disappointing that we have ONE GSM carrier in this country, which just so happens to rob consumers. Their CSR's need to be re-trained as every one you encounter will tell you something completely different about your account. FRUSTRATING!!!
