well i guess nobody knew.. i just emailed griffin and this is what i got...

The Griffin iFM has not been offically approved by Apple, but our Quality Assurance team has tested them since the 1.01 update that Apple just released and it does work. There will be a "Nag Screen" at first saying, "Item not made for iPhone". When you say ok then it works like normal with the exception of remote controls. Thanks for your interest.

im guessing he made a mistake by saying 1.01.... he probabaly meant 1.1.1

probably not there was a 1.0.1 update. aswell its note worthy to mention that most accessories do seem to work with the ipod touch and not with iphone despite them being basicly the same platform.
its clearly deliberate on apples part to differentiate between the one being an actual ipod and the other a completely new platform in thier eyes.

IMHO its unfortunate and is apparently going to force me to buy a new FM transmitter as none of the current ones seem to work.

I got no luck making my FM transmitter to work.
Lets see what happens, I have been looking for an FM
transmitter for my iPhone, but I have found none.

The Griffin works fine as an FM radio. You plug it into the dock and plug your headphones into it and you get FM. Really, all the iphone is doing is powering it.

Sorta works as a remote. You can play/pause/skip. Cant adjust volume. Iphone music comes out of the iphone jack, not the griffin cable.

Don't buy one from Griffin. Pick it up on Ebay. I have seen them go for a buck... well about 10 bucks shipped.

I also bought different no-name ipod/nano FM radio dongle off Ebay for a buck. Works fine as FM radio, iphone music comes out the dongle, and the remote controls do work. When connected to an ipod, it is supposed to use the ipod screen for freq display... does not work in iphones. Also in FM radio mode, the volume control brings up a screen saying it is adjusting the iphone ringer volume. Seems to adjust both the ringer volume and sound. This dongle looks like current ebay item 120173457564.

The phone does get into the audio on both dongles when it is transmitting. FM quality is rather good on both. Overall, I prefer the Griffin since it shows the FM channel you are on even though the no-name dongle actually works better.

the griffin road trip i posted a picture of works perfectly, as tested by me last night

picked it up from ebay for 15

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=017

its advisable to stick the phone in airplane mode (a prompt comes up asking if you want to do this when you put it in the cradle) as the constant cell info broadcast/receive makes that horrrible noise through your stereo

but yeah, charges the phone and broadcasts perfectly, even in the worst place in the world to try it (central london) i found the signal was strong enough to over ride most stations
