I was told that there wasn't enough 'bandwidth' to support both at the same time so you can only do one or the other (unless you're on WiFi).

Unbelievable
Just tried it and can't believe my eyes. The phone can't receive ANY call when it is transmitting data.
Every other phone i had, just paused the gprs/edge connection until i hang up, but no call is rejected. Voice has always a higher priority than data.
Just imagine looking up something in google maps where a lot of data is transmitted. No incoming calls while doing this.
Is this an issue just with unlocked phones or does this apply to original unhacked phones with at&t too? Could someone please try and post here?

This is known. Iphone does not support Data + Voice at the same time. Welcome to the past....
Sad to say, but not everything on the iphone is that great
And, from what I´ve read it can also not delay a data connection in favour of an incoming call.

Whoa ...
That is correct .... I'm on the AirTel network in India and I ahve the same issue. Calls ARE forwarded to my voicemails if edge is active. Works fine on Wi-Fi though. It might be a network related issue too. But I do believe its an iPhone issue. Any1 tried it on some other phone using the SuperSim to see what happens?
iPhone 8Gb + AirTel SuperSim Calls In/Out -> OK
SMS In/Out -> OK
Edge -> OK

Holy shit... Thats the death for the iphone....
no auto emailcheck because of losing phone calls... NO WAY!!!!!!!!!
Is there some strings in any plist file to change priority???
If i can not solve this problem, the iphone will not be my phone.

No wonder they didnt supply the iPhone with Push-email, that would mean you have an email device, without voice support. Every phone I had in the last 5-6 years had GPRS and paused Data while getting a call. This is pre-historic at best... I hope firmware updates will address things like this, after all Apple is just getting into dealing with phones, lets give them the benefit of the doubt.

Please, is there anybody who knows how to change the EDGE settings?
There must be a setting wich will regulate the priority of calls and EDGE transfer.
Please help!
Technical it is like this: if you have EDGE/GPRS transfer, the provider sent a string to your phone that there is a call coming in. Now the phone itself make the dessision wich has priority. EDGE or the phone call.
In our case the iphone gives the transfer prio1 and the phonecall goes to nirvana...
If we can find out how the iphone sets the prio we have found the solution.
it could be not so hard....

Hi
I read the above article, and it says about NOM1 and NOM2 network have differences, etc in terms of terminating the DATA connection when a call comes in. I dont know anything about NOMs and where I live at, Hungary, the network sure supports it, but on most headsets you still have to set the priority between calls and data. I usually set it to Calls, and data is then interrupted, and when the call is hung up, data kicks back in. This I consider a "basic" feature of any phone, even a $1 dollar phone, so I am sure it will be addressed in future releases of the Firmware. Unless of course, this NOM1 and NOM2 theory is right, and the US has no chance of getting the right network for this to work, then the phone will probably not support the switch.
