Wink I think its time for some conspiracy theories... :)

Think now; it is very obvious that with this much determination, hard work and hype, sooner or later there'll be an unlock solution and a specially apple (and AT&T) will loose a lot of money. I said a specially apple because they'll also loose future contracts too (world wide).

and then suddenly, out of nowhere (or maybe they were planned before and kept as backups) some guys pop-up with magicly perfect unlock-software solution which doesn't only unlocks your iphone but also promisses to keep your phone unlocked for future updates too...

and this amazingly perfect software can also check and identify individual phones too...

long story short; these guys looks too good to be true to me, at least not by them selfs only...
apple might thought this to coverup their loses...
even our dev team comes up with a free alternative it could be prevented on next update but at the same time let these pay-for-freedom guy go on... so eventually all the iphones will make them their extra cash as they expect...

PS: i also posted this exact message to some other thread as a reply but then i thougth that opening a new thread may be a better idea since this alone would be a very big subject to discuss about...

I too have been skeptical of the majority of unlock solutions out there, as there are far too many people trying to speculate and profit from alleged unlock solutions that may not really exist.

On the other hand, the fact that this particular solution (iphonesimfree.com) was demonstrated to Engadget speaks well for its reliability, as Engadget is not going to risk their reputation and credibility on something that doesn't pan out.

On the other hand, I know of a couple of other online publications that have contacted iPhonesimfree.com without any response. It's possible they consider Engadget to be sufficient publicity of their solution, but the lack of any response to any other legitimate news organizations (online and print) is somewhat deafening.

    Here's one for you...

iphonesimfree.com "obtained" an unlock method. They packaged it & are looking to sell bulk licenses. iphoneunlocking.com posted that they would be selling service today in hopes of buying licenses from iphonesimfree.com. Someone in the chain couldn't do it, it wasn't reliable, couldn't pay, etc so the whole deal falls apart. Attribute it to AT&T so no one will blame the "little guy".

Unique phones were collecting IMEI numbers to feed their deathstar in an attempt to finally shoot a deathray towards downing street. At&toilet got wind of this and sent out brave men in orange jumpsuits riding Vespas only armed with light rubber band guns. THe guys from Unique saw the threat to their plans and retreated.

If you have given your IMEI number to Unique you need to take a meat cleaver to your phone immediatly, or better yet get in your moms car drive down to the nearest Quickie Mart buy some Fizz and pour it over your phone while chanting "buttcrack sand" 564 times.

This isn't working for me - can you post a HOWTO?

Seriously, how do you guys even use the iPhone? I would have thought the tinfoil hat would cause too much interference.

Here's a story, a buddy of mine worked for a large national enterprise. Due to the nature of their business, they regularly entered into agreements with other large enterprises. He worked in the legal department (20 people total!), and they had 3 guys I constantly heard referred to as "the hawgs". When I asked what it meant, he told me it stood for HWGF (F was silent I guess), which stood for "How We Get Fucked". Basically, these dudes sat there all day, looked at every deal the company made, and came up with absolute worst-case scenarios, totally off-the-wall shit, day after day, and then ways to prevent it.

I'm pretty sure both Apple and AT&T have their own set of HWGFs, and probably far more than my buddy's company did, and they're certainly far more creative at concocting doom for their respective companies than any of us are.

I think it's safe to say that Apple and/or AT&T have foreseen this eventuality and have planned for it.
    "Are you into S&M?"
"Well...I'm a Red Sox fan. Does that count?"
    Go Sox!
